RECOVERING

Brendon TEST Burchard shares his recovery routine after four days of performing at High Performance Academy. He discusses the physical and vocal toll of long hours on stage and what he does to bounce back.
So I'm backstage, I'm about to go out in front of 2,000 people and I want you to see what it looks like to live my life melded into an introduction. This is what it looks like to spend your life trying to inspire people. Spend your life doing the research, learning the psychology, learning physiology, learning to help you become more productive, learning the high performance habits. I want you to see what this looks like. Are you ready? All right, let's rock it. Let's go. I'm home now, recovering from my event High performance academy. I did four days on stage, about 12 hours a day. So if my voice sounds pretty funky, it's because over the last couple days I really wasn't talking. I'm just getting my voice back where I'm warmed up now after recovering from the event. I'll play some footage from that event so you can see what it's like to, you know, rock the house for 2,000 people for four days. But some cool things I'm working on right now. And this is my first vlog ever where I've done an unboxing. So I've got this box here and I thought I would show you kind of what it's like a little bit to go through your life as an author and maybe give some insight into that. This box I've been waiting for for a while, ever since high performance habits came out actually, and I thought would splay this thing out. This is is my contracts in Brazil, Czech, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, simplified Chinese, Czech rights, Estonian. So that's always a really big exciting day when you see all these places you got to on a piece of paper that will ultimately help your book reach hopefully millions of more people around the world. So as an author and as someone recovering from a live event right now, I'm super thankful for that and pretty stoked about that. So if you've been waiting for my books in those languages, it's coming soon with that. Maybe show you some behind the scenes of what I just did over the last couple days so you can see why my voice sounds so crazy. And then I'll also show you a little bit of my recovery routines so you can see how would you recover from a four day live seminar. And you got to do a lot of recovery in your life if you want to be a high performer. Feeling the nerves today. It's a big room, dude. New hotel, 2000 people. Room looks good. Yeah. I'm never nervous about the size of the audience. I'm nervous about it when I change the Entire flow. I'm nervous when I have not prepared sufficiently and I'm nervous when we're in a new environment. A new hotel can really change things up. For a four day seminar, like on keynotes, I don't care, just show up and there's 10,000 people in the arena. The setting doesn't matter in that situation. But when you have them for four days and you don't know the room, that is when it's like, okay, but you just gotta push away sometimes, close the eyes and rev up like you're gonna go have a tough conversation with your spouse. Is it important for you to be in the right head space? Yes or no. But how often do you just bumble in that? How many of you are guilty of just bumbling into situations without leveraging it, upping your mind? Yeah, that's called going through the motions. And that's the opposite of high performance. Because high performance ultimately begins with intention, doesn't it? This is so every break I come back. So I put the group. So right now we have 2,000 people out there. I put them in groups of five to share something specific about their life that they're working on, something they're grateful for. Some of the actions they're taking in their life to change that. Just finished one of the rounds. Then I come back. As they're doing that, I come back, super high grade refresh, bathroom break and then protein shake with some carbs, spinach, blueberries, avocado for some fats. And it puts me back in the game. By the end of the day I'll probably, you know, 20 plus bottles of water, which again is not extreme when you're moving and jumping and clouding and the amount of expenditure to an audience is amazing. So don't try to drink 20 of these at home. You don't need to. It's just because I'm performing day five and I hurt. My body hurts, my voice hurts. I've done everything to control for that. But it's just after five days and that many miles on stage, you just hurt. So this morning I rolled out, I exercised, I stretch, I'm taking my anti inflammatories, I ice bath last night, slept great. Just this amount of work. Yeah, it's just pushing that hard. But you got an awesome group and part of it is when you hurt like this, your energy just goes up when you're, you know, in front of 2000 people. So even if you're hurt and you warm up and you still feel like within 10 minutes out there, you're, you know, part of the nice thing is you're bringing the energy to people, but after, you know, one day or two days, they're sustaining you too. So, yeah, down, pause. Now breathe and push that right heel into the earth. Yeah, you heard that. Feet, left heel come into the earth. Now both heels come into the earth and pull them up and down and up and down. You're doing great. And up and down. So you're like, where's that fun thing we were talking about? It's. That's called conviction and that is called celebration. Thank you for HBA Day 3 complete. I'll see you. Okay. All I have to say is believe in yourself. Follow your dream on struggle. Go out and spread your love. All right. I hope you enjoyed that behind the scenes look at High Performance Academy. It might explain why I look so rough around the edges right now, because I'm still recovering and it takes a lot of diligence. If you didn't know, High Performance Academy is one of the world's longest personal and professional development events for a single trainer. Meaning it's four days, it's 12 hours plus a day where I'm on my feet speaking and training. And there's not other speakers. So it's not what they call a multi speaker event. It's a training event. It's just me. And so it's super, super intense to teach. And as you can see, it's a lot of movement with the energy and the audience. And just trying to make the whole thing happen is an incredible ordeal. I mean, imagine if you ever got married before and you pulled on a wedding. You know, that wedding probably is only a couple hours long, right? Well, this is an event for 2,000 people in a different state that I traveled to that we pull off for four days. But I get asked all the time, like, how do I recover from these big events and life on the road? And you know, I really consider my life is so much on stage in many ways. You know, I'm at all my seminars. We do eight big events like that per year. I speak at all these other conferences and keynotes throughout the year. I'm constantly training. Maybe not here on the vlog on YouTube, but I'm constantly building new online courses. Even tonight I'm doing a live broadcast with my best clients in the world. And so it's constantly having to be on and be training. And so I got to take care of myself. So the way that I recover from that event you just saw is, you know, I fly home and I just maintain my regimen as much as possible. Well, okay, what it really looks like is this where I'm basically sleeping for a couple days to catch up. And then it's just maintaining that energy output each day, just kind of dialing it down. But you know, if you see me recover, I'm pushing it on the treadmill, I'm pushing it on the bike, I'm weightlifting, I'm eating well, I'm sleeping a ton. I'm just taking care of myself. And the reason I sound so weird right now is I sound this bad because when I finish that event, I finish that at Sunday in the afternoon around 1pm and then I meet with my team or finish what I have to do. And then from about Sunday at 5pm, I stop talking. And I mean, I literally don't speak. I don't use, I mean, no words. I don't whisper. There's nothing comes out of my mouth from Sunday at 5pm all the way until Wednesday at 5pm And I try to limit the amount of work that I have to do after an event. So I don't work a lot Monday, maybe I get back into it a little bit on Tuesday, and maybe I'm getting about, you know, up to 70% on Wednesday. But I don't speak at all. No words, don't talk to my wife. I text her. You know, we play charades, basically. I don't do any phone calls, I don't do a ton of work. I just, I'm very active in my recovery because I do this eight times per year, events like you just saw. I mean, so it's a lot. And then I'm also out on the stage, you know, speaking at corporations and community colleges and universities and associations. And then I'm also at home, not only doing the vlog and the podcasts, but I also train. Like tonight I'll do a live broadcast event for my best clients, and that's three hours of live training. So I really do consider my life kind of on the stage and I have to be prepared for that. I have to practice my own high performance practices. I have to be on my game. I have to make sure that I'm really taking care of myself. And you do too. You know, so often we get in this trap of just, you know, hustle and grinding or thinking we have to do that and we don't build in balance to what we're doing.
