June 17, 2010 hello future Detroiters. My name is Jacob Brayford Jr. And I am a social entrepreneur and I was raised in the very community that you live in. I'm certain that things may be considerably different and I hope that my work now will contribute to the grandeur that you will come to know of our great city. I grew up with three brothers and four sisters and a host of close friends found in the Detroit public school system. It was the valuable undertaking of some dedicated staff of the DPS that I am who I am today. Exposed to everything from the Detroit area pre college engineering program to robotics. I was even honored with the prestigious.
Spirit of Detroit award.
Upon graduation, I was equipped with tools needed to become a focused, productive and dedicated citizen of Detroit. Our title, the Motor City isn't just about the automotive industry. We are the element that powers the world. Across the past 300 years, Detroit has contributed to the world in ways that no other individual city has. Even now, as we speak in innovative changes are happening. The music, the arts, sports, the tenacity, sharing the border with another country. It's citizens that fight every day to.
Provide you with more efficient tools, opportunities.
And the feel of a city that.
You can be proud of.
Up next are urban farming, the boom of the film industry, an influx of musical talent and one element that we took for granted.
Transit Passion is a word that I like to use to describe how I feel about our city. Just a couple of weeks ago I.
Witnessed a parade that brought together different community organizations, neighborhood alliances and most importantly.
The youth were present to see that we do care.
As this parade marched down Libernoise from a little before 7 mile all the way down to Lodge Freeway, I began to be moved within my spirit and.
I even dropped a few tears.
At that very moment, I knew that.
I was destined to be a part of Detroit's future. Your present.
My present to you. I love you Detroit and I am.
Committed to doing all I can to keep the progress of our city going.
And passing this letter, this torch over.
To you so that you too can take our great city to the next level.
For your children's children. I represent our city, Detroit, Michigan.
