In this short instructional video, Bill from Beyond Fitness Online explains how the direction of your gaze—specifically looking upward toward the top of the eye sockets—can enhance extension movements such as hip extension in lunges and shoulder extension. He describes a brain‑reflex mechanism that is activated when the eyes are up, leading to greater range of motion, mobility, and strength. Bill demonstrates the effect using a lunge, showing that the same hip extension achieves a noticeably larger movement when the eyes are directed upward. He concludes by inviting viewers to visit his website, leave comments, and subscribe for weekly fitness updates.

Hi, I'm Bill from Beyond Fitness Online, and today I want to talk to you about something that I don't think you think about much when you're working out, and that thing is your eyes. Where your eyes are or what they're looking at while you're working out does matter, and it matters for all of your movements. So in the next few videos, I'm going to be covering a couple of different things about this. But today, let's talk about extension. So extension is basically anything where you're opening up a joint. So if you're doing a lunge, that leg that's in the back, that hip is in extension. If you take your arm and you reach it behind you like this, that's shoulder extension. Anytime we're doing any kind of extension movement, you're going to find that you get more movement and more mobility and more strength When you have your eyes looking up like this. So that doesn't mean your head, it just means your eyes go up to the top of the sockets. And what that does is that creates this reflex or activates this brain reflex in your body that helps facilitate any extension movements. So I'm going to show you a couple of different things right here. In this example, we'll use a lunge position. There's right hip extension going on here, and you can see with normal eyes how far that goes. Now, with the eyes up, we go back into that hip extension and we get a significant improvement in that movement. I hope you found that helpful.
