In this instructional video, Bill, the owner of beyondfitnessonline.com, demonstrates a simple eye‑tracking exercise that can be performed anywhere to alleviate stress. The viewer places a thumb in front of them, focuses on the fingernail, and moves the thumb toward the bridge of the nose while following it with the eyes until the image becomes double, then reverses the motion. He recommends 3–5 repetitions. Bill explains that the eye‑movement muscles are innervated by cranial nerve III, which projects to the midbrain—the origin of the stress response. He then repeats the exercise using the tip of the nose, engaging cranial nerve IV. The video ends with a call to comment, subscribe, and a reminder to “live healthy.”

Today I'm going to show you another exercise that you can do anywhere that's going to help reduce your stress. Hi, I'm Bill, owner of beyondfitnessonline.com, and today I want to teach you an exercise that seems really weird and something you probably did as a child, but it will actually reduce your stress. Now, if you're new to my channel, I'd love for you to hit the logo right over here and subscribe. So you can get all of my videos. I try to post videos every Friday and more often when I can. So here's the exercise. It's super simple. All you need is your thumb. You're going to put your thumb right out in front of you. You're going to stare right at one part of your fingernail. And what you're going to do is we're going to come right towards the bridge of the nose right here. This is what you're aiming for. And you're going to follow that with your eyes. You're gonna go cross-eyed and it will get blurry. Blurry is fine. When you get to the point where you're seeing 2 thumbs, you've gone in too far and your eyes are no longer tracking it. So when you see 2 thumbs, you're gonna slowly come back out. And you're gonna do this a few times, maybe 3 to 5 repetitions. What happens is the muscles that control the eyes going in is cranial nerve 3. Cranial nerve 3 goes directly into the midbrain, and the midbrain is where the stress response begins. Okay? Cranial nerve 4 also goes into the same area, and we can stimulate that doing a very similar exercise. It's the exact same thing, but instead of aiming for the bridge of the nose, we're going to now aim for the tip of the nose. So you're here, you're going to come in, so now the eyes go down and in this way. Okay. So that's controlled by cranial nerve 4, those muscles. Were you in my brain? So give these a try.
