A short dialog advising contractors on selecting and committing to business software: identify needs by documenting workflows, avoid buying software as a trend, and ensure software addresses real problems rather than amplifying existing issues. Emphasizes owner accountability for business processes when software appears to fail.
What advice would you give other contractors in terms of how can they figure out what they want from a software and then how do they then commit to the software?
I think you figure out what you need by actually spending the time and documenting your workflows. Right. Like some people just buy software just to buy software because it's like trendier. Like they heard it from their friend that it works or whatever it may be. But good software is made to solve problems or to enhance certain things in your business. But what ends up happening is most business owners don't know what they're trying to solve for and the software actually enhances their problems and then they start complaining about the software instead of going to fix their business and then they never point the finger at themselves. They point the finger at the software company. So I think most software is good if it's used the right time for the right reasons and you know what you're getting into.
