Bill Brown and a colleague discuss why maintenance work gets dismissed as busy work, even though it keeps technicians connected to customers. Many maintenance contracts are pre-sold before a tech ever meets the customer, and spiffs are used to incentivize staff to sell them.

They look at maintenance as, as busy work, even though it gets you back into the house and keeps you, it does keep you busy, but it keeps you in front of that customer so that you can go fix it later.
