Maybe you find yourself going up or down 5, 10, 15% every year. You make some gains, you attract some gains. You'd love to double the business, but you struggle to really get out of the up and down fluctuations or it's just going too slow. I've got a couple ideas for you that make a real difference that have worked for me, worked for our clients. Hang in there. Hi, my name is Bill Gallagher. I'm the scaling coach, host of the Scaling Up Business podcast. We've got hundreds of tips and ideas like this and more@scalingcoach.com so let me start first with a personal example. And in my last business, a business that I ran with my wife some years ago, we found ourselves in that place. We'd go up a little bit, we'd come down a little bit, we'd make some gains, we'd lose some ground, right? And I think a lot of companies are like that. We really just wanted to double the business. And we'd been in that place for a while and we struggled with it. And we came up with a couple things that made a huge difference. One of them is the bhag, the big hairy audacious goal. And then the other thing that went along with that was the vivid vision. So the bhag is Jim Collins term for the big hairy audacious goal. And in our case that was a 10x or better kind of a future. We were looking for something really, really big. So if we look out 10 or more years, we think about something well beyond that. We change the way we think about the business. See, if you're just thinking about how to double, it's all incremental, it's building on something. And so you make a little ground, you change a little ground. You tweak on some things. But there's nothing fundamentally change if we think long term and about a bigger goal. If we go 10x or more, we can actually be incremental. If we're going to 10x or better the business, if we're going to dominate our category, if we're going to claim something really big, we have to reimagine everything. And then stepping back from that and say more of a three to five year timeframe would be the vivid vision. The other idea here and in this case we're also looking at something like 10x or better owning a category. And in both those cases those things have you fundamentally rethink the way you buy, the way you sell, what you sell, who you work with, all of that kind of thing. If you'll apply 10x thinking, create a BHAG, think longer term and bigger about that. The doubling of the business will happen really quickly. It happened for us, it happens for our clients on a regular basis. 2x happens really quickly when you're playing a 10x game. So use the BHAG. Create your vivid vision. I hope that's helpful.
