Find something relevant to something that you're dealing with right now, even if it's not not dealing with this particular one. So find all that and more@scalingcoach.com Anyway, back to this. So I was dealing with a company in the talent space, hr, staffing kind of business. And in talking with the CEO and the owner of the company, he was like, I don't know about purpose. Like we bought this company to make money and to do something and you know, to have a job and pay some bills and that kind of thing. There's no purpose really. It's just a business function. I said, I think you should indulge me. I think there's something deeper here that you're just not connected to, you're not in touch with. So give me a minute, indulge me and let's see what we can do. And he said okay, because he trusted me, because we had a good relationship and all that. And so we did it as we often do. We asked, what do you do and why does that matter? What difference does that make? So go explore that Ask that. And we did something with that that made it easier. And I do this again and again. Now I've learned this over time. It works really, really well. You can reproduce this. So you're going to ask what it is you do and why that matters and you're going to keep pro why it matters. That part's written. Other coaches have talked about that. Right. But we're looking for the difference it makes, why you care about it. So you're going to break everybody up into pairs and you're going to go take a walk. Take a walk, move around outside, explore in pairs with partners, not three way, not four. Why you do what you do, what difference it makes. The listening person is doing more of the work. In this case, they're listening and probing deeply for the other person, speaking and writing down what they hear together. They're going to compare notes. People come back, you write your things on a whiteboard or a sticky board or a flip chart or whatever. Now with a bunch of different people, let's say you got four pairs, you got eight people working on it. You could do it wider than that. You're going to coalesce that down. You're going to distill it down into something that's powerful. You're going to find the common things that really resonate with the purpose or why. Statement. We're just looking for what we actually care about in this team. In about 40 minutes of example, learning, setup, walking around, they came up with we keep the world working. And when they did it, there was kind of a little gasp, a little astonishment in the room that they come up with something so beautiful. And they ended up putting on the back of T shirts they were inspired by, made a difference in the quality and nature of their work and their engagement. Hope that's helpful for you.
