I want to talk to you today about where you're already strong and what's missing that would transform your life, your leadership like that. And I want to begin to introduce that there are four sort of critical skills for leaders that can make a difference. So the first thing I did, and I've talked about it a couple times before, even recently, is starting with your purpose. What's your why, the why for yourself and for your business. You want to get some articulation of that why, and then you want to look at your life and think about what's strong and what's missing. So when I got my why, I realized what I wanted to do was be someone who made a difference for other people, who was a generous contribution, who was remembered as one of the good guys long, long after I'm gone. And yet when I looked at my life, I looked at, I had strengths in being smart and being articulate. I had built companies and sold my way into things and solved problems with thinking and with evangelizing and winning people over, that kind of thing. And yet there was something missing. And what was missing was this why. Now, the why that was missing for me was making a difference. Because up to that point I was really focused on accomplishing things for myself and my life. But when I realized I wanted to be remembered as a contribution, as somebody who made a difference, I then had to look at, well, was I making a difference for anyone else? And who were the people? And as I examined that, I realized that people were really missing. I mean, I was surrounded by people, people worked with me, people worked for me. I had a wife and kids, I had extended family, I had friends even. But there was like a distance, like a holding people away. Well, if I want to be someone who lives a life of making A difference. That's kind of weird that I would always hold people away. I would actually want to get in, get to know people, get close to people. Except I was sort of wired to be separate as well. But to be really fulfilled and really powerful as a leader, finding and figuring out how to do that was the key thing. So for you, it's useful now to think about what matters to you in your life and where are you already strong and where do you need to go to work? We say there are these four big areas. The first is inspiring. That's the purpose, that's the vision we'll talk more about. Being an inspiring leader is about having a big vision that lights you up, being able to share it effectively with other people, to light other people up. That's the first piece. The next piece is engaging people. And to be really get started engaging, you just get good at pitching, right? You sell, you pitch, you propose, you make offers, that kind of thing. That's the world of engaging at the first cut. And there are a lot of people get it. But for me, the second, the deeper cut, is about, like, really listening. So if, if I want to get really good at engaging people, getting them to commit, right. What do we mean by engaging? Getting them to commit and act. Whether it's being buying something or partnering or working with me or whatever, commitment and action is engaging. And to do that, I really want to be better listener, more connected and aware. And then there's planning. I was pretty good at that. And the last piece then is coaching. So coaching. So we inspire people, then we get them in action, then we align their work to the overall plan and to each other. And now coaching keeps them in the game because even after all that inspired people, doing work that fits them against a plan with all that, then there are setbacks and people get discouraged and they want to quit. So coaching is the last piece of the flywheel for leaders that keeps people in the game and leveling up all the time. So the coaching really like being a better listener, more connected, aware of what people want, and then being a great coach were completely missing for me, and I had to go to work at those things, not having all the answers, but being curious and helping other people develop. So if you could figure out where you're strong, which of those things you lean to, most of us lean to one or two of them, and where you want to develop some capacity to go deeper, to get better at it, that's the work that there is to do as a leader. Let's bring in purpose and then let's figure out which of the major strengths that you can use already and which you need to add to and develop. Maybe they're going to come at from so many some particular direction that you're already strong in, but we probably have to level up in some place. So that is the beginning of the idea of a leadership flywheel and combining your strengths with what fulfills you, your business and life purpose. Hope that's been helpful for you.
