I want to talk to you about what inspires you and what will inspire other people. Inspiring leaders are awesome to be around and maybe you are one, or maybe you've always wanted to be one, maybe you've seen them before. But any of us can be far more inspiring. Look, if you're a leader with anything that you care about, there's access to being a more inspiring leader. And it really does start with that. What do you care about? I was working with a guy for a while, coaching him and his team with an education technology business, edtech business. And he had like all these facts and figures about why their solution was good and how it helped people, but there was no passion in it. So I just coached him to tell me first why he started the business, why he even got into it. And he shared the whole story about his child and seeing something in a school and something a teacher told him and just being really deeply moved and feeling like it matters, it shouldn't be like that. And then he had this idea, this insight for something that would change the world of education or could change the world of education. And he could just see like everybody and these different forces connected with this new technology and new approach, like profoundly changing the course of child's lives forever. And that's why he started the business. I was totally captivated story. It was real, it was authentic, it was well told. And so with a little coaching, he said, look, I was a dad like this and this is what I saw and this is what happened. And I realized the whole world and our country is filled with people exactly like this and it's just horrible. And he really cared about it. You could see it was personal connection to it. And he said, but then I had this idea, right? And that's the beginning of articulating the future vision. What if we connected this and that and solved this problem with technology, with people for kids forever? That would be an extraordinary difference. And we could actually build this thing and scale it and take it coast to coast. And so that's where he started. And he had actually then started to attract more funding, more people, more participants in their program. And they took that thing and grew it for a while, while I've lost track of them since then. But it was an extraordinary thing. So the formula for you is this really what do you care about? How did this even get started? What's the story? If you could describe the way things are today and just really create a picture of why you care about them. Where did you conceive of this? What have you noticed since you started into it? Maybe it happened by accident, but create a story of your connection to it based in reality that really shows the unworkability of the present reality. And then talk about your idea, your inspiration and what that would be. If that really grew and scaled up across the region, the country, the world, what would that world be like? That is very much like giving that I have a dream speech. You're articulating the dream that you have that makes the world a better place in some category specific industry like whatever, and that's captivating. If you actually care about it, you could share some of that. That's a powerful way to be a more visionary, inspiring leader by sharing your vision and the difference it would make.
