Proverbs 29:1 & 18 | Business Application

Billy Sticker applies two Proverbs verses to business leadership. Verse 1 warns that stubbornness after repeated correction brings destruction without remedy, illustrated by firing an employee with a persistent negative attitude. Verse 18 says people perish without vision, which Billy frames as the need for clear goals and dreams to guide your year.
Chapters
Hey guys, Billy Sticker here. Proverbs chapter 29. Today I love verse one. It says a man who remains stiff necked after many rebukes will suddenly be destroyed without remedy. And what this is simply saying here is somebody who, who's rebuked over and over and over again will suddenly be destroyed that without remedy or will, you know, stiffen their neck and be destroyed without remedy. You know this a good example of this is, you know the guy who. We had this happen whenever I was managing a rare coin and precious metals company. We had to let this guy go because he, his attitude. We had to keep telling him, dude, you got to work on your attitude, got to work on your attitude. He was so negative about everything and, and finally I just called him in one day and he looked so surprised. I was like, man, we've got to let you go. And he went on and on about asking for forgiveness and just his attitude toward other employees. And we told him, look man, we forgive you, you're forgiven. And I think the Bible isn't saying that you won't be forgiven, but there's a price that he had to pay and it says he'll be destroyed without remedy. We forgave him. Hey, he may be a great guy, but that doesn't mean we're going to keep him employed with us or for the guy who keeps going out and drinking all the time instead of being home with his wife and his kids. He does this over and over again and then he asks for forgiveness and he's going out and doing it again and doing it again. Well, God may forgive him, but he can keep doing this and he can turn around one day and lose his family, he remains stiff necked and doing what he wants to do. The Bible calls that being foolish. Whenever you are being corrected and you are not taking any of it, you are ignoring it, the Bible just says that that's not wisdom. The opposite of wisdom is foolish. Another great One in chapter 29 is verse 18. It says where there is no revelation or a lot of other translations say where there is no vision. This is the people cast off restraint. I think it's the King James version that says, well, there is no vision, the people perish. And what this is simply saying is you've got to have a goal, you've got to have a dream. Now throughout Proverbs it also talks about not chasing fantasies, but a dream and a goal isn't necessarily a fantasy. A dream and a goal and a vision is. The why that gets you up in the morning to do what you need to be doing to get you where you need to go. So you've got to have goals. We're coming up on the new year, and this is a great time for people to set goals, things that they want to accomplish this upcoming year. Anyway, that's my take on just a couple of verses out of Proverbs 29. Thanks.
