In this brief monologue, the speaker argues that contemporary news broadcasts no longer present direct, factual coverage of real-world events. Instead, they deliver a "fictional narrative"—sometimes loosely based on reality, often not—leaving viewers without a true depiction of diseases, wars, insurrections, protests, riots, or elections. The speaker emphasizes that audiences have never actually witnessed a genuine news broadcast of events, and this disconnect makes it difficult for people to accept the mediated version of reality.

Chapters

No one listening to this program has ever seen a news broadcast about events in the world, ever. Not once, not for five seconds. What you have is a fictional narrative, sometimes based on real events, but often not even that. And we don't know what the alternative of what real news even looks like. So what you're seeing on a page or a screen these days is not news. You're not seeing a depiction of events in the world. You're not seeing about a real disease or a real war or a real insurrection or a real protest or a real riot or a real election. And I think that's very, very hard for people to believe.
