Instructional demo describing a plank variation called “plank singles” that targets the deep core. The speaker explains setup (hips down, elbows down), breathing cues (inhale to expand, exhale to lift), progressions (knees → toes), emphasis on using the core to lift—not pushing through elbows/knees/toes—and optional pike and slow pace for challenge or modification.
Let's talk about my favorite plank variation to truly engage your deep core and activate your entire core working together as a unit. I call these plank singles, and what I love about them is they're a great modification for beginners or those in the postpartum period, but they're also super challenging for anyone if you're doing them correctly. You want to start down on your hips, up on the elbows, inhale to expand through your back, sides and belly. And as you exhale, you're going to lift up through the core, using your core to lift up to the knees. You can start with this, and then as you're ready, you'll continue up from the knees on to the toes. The main thing you want to think about is using your core to create the lift, to create the motion. Not pushing through your elbows or your knees or your toes, but your core is lifting your torso. You can add a little pike for a little extra, and of course, you can take these nice and slow at your own pace.
