Why I don’t do this

Amy Schemper leaves mistakes in her workout videos because she's busy, because live teaching taught her to keep going, and because real life isn't perfect. She re-records only when an error breaks the workout itself, otherwise she lets the human moments stay.

I just finished filming a workout for y'all, and this one I actually had to start over not once but twice. Just completely stop the camera, stop the microphone, and completely start over. And that actually doesn't happen very often, not because I don't make mistakes, because I do, but because I often just leave them in. Many of you have commented on it over the years. You said you liked it, or you were laughing with me, or it was relatable, but If you wanna know why I don't edit out those mistakes, there's a couple of reasons. One, I don't have time. I'm a small business owner, I'm a mom of 2 kids, I have too many things going on between life and kids and work, and it's just not practical. Number 2, it's because I have a background in group fitness and teaching studio live classes, and when you're teaching for 30 or 40 or 50 people in person, you can't really start over. You just have to roll with it. I laugh about it and I hope that you laugh with me. And number 3, and the biggest reason, is because that's not real life, right? Sometimes in real life, we get off balance, we lose our footing, we have to drop down to a lighter weight. Maybe we do the wrong side, or we leave out a couple reps, or maybe I'm not watching the clock, all in, a kid walks in. I know they happen to you, they also happen to me. So I always wanna encourage you to be where you are today and just roll with it. It's not about perfection. It's about progress. It's not about being absolutely perfect. It's about being consistent. So that is why I often leave those mistakes in. Of course, I do edit them or start over like I did today if it is going to affect the workout. I want it to be, um, the right workout in the right way for you. But when it comes to me just being human, I'm hoping that you are just laughing with me and, um, understand that that happens. That's life. And we still showed up, we still moved our bodies, and we still should be proud about that.
