Bruno - WEC - Feb ‘23

Bruno jumped three progressive rounds at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, moving from 1.20 m to 1.30 m. He got calmer and jumped better as the day went on, with coach Peter Wild helping him stop drifting right. The 1.30 m round in the main stadium was nearly Olympic-level clean.

This is a video for the Annie Goodwin Syndicate. Well, everyone, we took Bruno down to Ocala, Florida to the World Equestrian Centre. We drove down there on Wednesday. I did a bit of flat work on him on Wednesday evening. And then this is our first round of jumping on Thursday morning. We started out in the meter 20 and like always, Bruno was the star of the show with the show jumping. It's an unbelievable jumper, saying that he's a little bit excited and fired up. So I'm glad we ended up doing three rounds while we were there. On the first day, which is. You're watching there. Thursday we did the meter 20 and the meter 25. And then on Friday morning we were in the main hotel ring and did the meter 30. Bruno was a start. The great thing about Bruno is that the more we jumped him, the better he got. He was a little bit, a little bit fired up and excited on this first round of jumping, which has sort of been to be expected. He hasn't really took him to one dressage show and he hasn't been out much. So it was a sort of a good experience just to get him off the farm and under a bit of atmosphere. Obviously our main goal this year is going to be Le Moulin in June and the show jumping there is incredibly hard. So obviously the strength of Bruno, but we also don't want to take it for granted. And jumping good technical tracks that are tall and tricky is good practice and obviously on very, very good footing, which doesn't knock his legs around too much. So I think this is the second. This is a couple hours later. This is the meter 25 class. Again, it's a different course, similar jump pattern and he jumped better. So my jumping coach, Peter Wild was kind enough to help me there for, for the two days. And a horse like Bruno makes Peter's job very easy. Bruno's got a little bit of a right drift which we've been trying to correct a little bit in the warm up. He's using a bit of inside leg and holding him slightly left in the. And then the biggest thing, obviously he's a great jumper, but we got to get him sort of relaxed through his body sometimes he's a little bit of a stiff horse and just jumps higher and trying to encourage Bruno to be efficient in his shape in the air, if you know what I mean. And like I said before, the more rounds we jumped, the more relaxed he got, the better he jumped. So it's pretty cool. So Bruno's next event's a big one. The Bruce's Field Grand Prix eventing. I think it's like the very beginning of March. Obviously, we had great success there last year, and we'll be giving it another good crack this year. I think a number of the syndicate are going to come and cheer him on there. All right, now, this is a bloody impressive round. This is the meter 30. This was in the main stadium ring, and this would have been the equivalent sort of height and difficulty is the Olympics or the World Championships. And Bruno just played with it from a riding point of view. It's so cool being able just to sit on Bruno and point him at the jump. And he gets to the jump and he just pats the ground and explodes over the jump. And it's comforting. I obviously still get a little bit nervous going into the ring, but I've got so much belief in his scope and carefulness. He's just a pleasure to ride. Think at Bruce's Field Grand Prix eventing, we'll have Bettina Hoy helping me a little bit in the dressage training and probably warming me up. She helped me earlier this year and had a couple of good breakthroughs with improving Bruno in the dressage. So I think it's a good time of the year to experiment with some new ideas. But he's in phenomenal shape, guys. He's feeling good, he's training well, he's trotting up very healthy, and I think we're in good shape. So I've just got to pace myself. I'm eager to get to La Morland, but I got to remind myself June is still a long way away and we just got to stay patient. I think we've got a real good chance this year of greatness. First double clear round of the day. Petterman B. Clean in 45.717 to lead the way here in her meter 30s.
