In this live commentary, the announcer follows United States rider Boyd Martin as he navigates the Long Island Tee, a first‑time five‑star horse, during a Kentucky 2021 long‑distance equestrian competition. The speaker describes key obstacles—Land Rover Head of the Lake, a drop log, and the Normandy Bank combination—highlighting how Martin’s line choices, right‑hand positioning, and brush navigation affect his performance. The commentary notes Martin’s world ranking (number six), the penalties incurred by other competitors (e.g., Grappanera’s 7.6‑second penalty), and references past results such as the four‑star Long at Jersey Fresh and Fair Hill championships. The narrator also mentions other top riders and horses (Janelle Price on Grappanera, Buck, Karlevo) and provides context about the international long‑distance circuit, including typical venues like Galway Downs, Tryon, and Fair Hill. The tone is descriptive and analytical, with a supportive yet critical attitude toward the riders’ execution of jumps.

I think a lot of people are going to be looking at that and that's going to suddenly make them feel a lot more confident about that coffin because that didn't necessarily look like it was there when we were walking it earlier in the week. It felt like you were. It was always going to happen. The Land Rover head of the lake and that therefore will be elimination. So Boyd Martin out on course now and all of a sudden alone on the course. This is Long Island Tee, the first of his three rides and a first time five star horse again just gets a little bit hung up. Boyd was really far to the right hand side there and Long island he ended up just kind of stepping through the high parts of the brush to get into the master sustainability Bay. One of our top ranked riders in the world. He's the world number six at the moment. As Boyd heads down to in that situation. Such a shame for Will because he had just started sitting up and really reassuring and giving such confidence to that horse. But unfortunately they just didn't get the highest quality jump in over that drop log. So we're just going to keep an eye out for a score for Grappanera and Janelle Price. Oh, this is great to see this whole area here around this jump. The other boat sets you up on the longer route and you can see how long that route might be with all the other obstacles there. But those three that we just saw Boyd jump, they are the straight route through there. Right. So 7.6 time penalties we've been told initially for Grappanira. As Boyd heads up the hill to the Normandy bank area of the course. It's a combination that have won the level below the four star long at Jersey Fresh. They were second in the four star long national championships at Fair Hill back in 2018 as well. And one of their prep runs was the big class out of Galway Dance on the west coast in California. A lot of the top riders with four star long options in the the autumn here being kind of Fair Hill. Sweet Jockey Club, now the fork, the Tryon Equestrian Center. So a lot of the riders that would have a lot of horses at the international advanced level. Do you tend to then from the east coast go over and take a few of them to Galway Downs each year as well. So here you get the sense that's normally the Land Rover experience. We hear that all the time. I could hear Buck saying thank you. Boyd Martin jumps in to the Land Rover head of the lake as Buck heads off with the first of his three. Karlevo is his best horse. Inside the top 15, inside the top 10. And it goes late in the day. Boy gets the elbows out, up that little step. It's deceptively small. And that is the problem with that fence. It is just on such a long one. Long island tea strap, three horse riders. The last thing you want there is great to see him back up on his feet so quickly you can see his air.
