Boyd Martin and Luke 140 tackle the final five-star cross-country at Luhmühlen 2023. The horse's pony-like quickness carries them through tight lines and technical fences, finishing in fourth place with a time of 2:25, just inside optimum.
Chapters
Towards home, the last to go will be and is Boyd Martin with Luke 140. Boyd with a dress size 30.1. He is way over the first Luke 141, owned by the Luke 140 Syndicate.
But you don't. You don't take in very much else. Only between what's between the ears.
Yeah. So at 6, Luke 140, Boyd Martin, who's already had a very good round with Federman.
B, always run out of control. A little bit slightly keen at this early stage.
Boyd Martin then and Luke 140. They gallop around to the rail ditch at 11A, B and C. Our very last to go. Laura Collett will be our overnight leader after the dressage and cross country. This is a very keen little horse, isn't he?
It's not the nicest feeling when you go to support them and they ignore it and go.
That fence collapse. It'll do its job. Very tight line. Pony like, isn't it? The way he goes on his brain.
Yeah, yeah, it's very pony like, which is a nice thing when. When they rush the fence a little bit. If they react. Actions are quick. It's not the worst thing if they're slow to react in their rush.
Yeah.
Different story.
It's just the. The way you'd say this was if you compared it to a human, a teenager. That's Boyd Martin and Luke143. Very good on the three. Two wasn't. So heads off through the trees. I have to say. I'm gonna. I'm gonna just thank very some wooded areas we've got at Lemurian. The camera work has been superb.
Amazing camera work. Yeah.
You know, we've seen a lot of fences.
Yeah. And they've been very quick to pick up.
Yeah.
Every horse, it's on course. Not many horses have been missed.
No. Been brilliant. Brilliant coverage
there.
And Luke 140, he's quick to.
I think he's deaf.
Although springs in seventh. Well, talking of top 10 finishes, it could be another top 10 finish for this man. Luke 140. And Boyd Martin, he's in seventh, eighth place with Fetterman B. He could be in with a shout with this or he could go into fourth place with Luke 140. And this is the less experienced of his other two horses as well. I think this may be his first five star.
It's actually a horse that I've never seen.
Yeah.
Go cross country. So.
Keen little number, isn't he?
But it's. It's actually relaxed a little bit. Into its rhythm there. Yeah, it's jumping the fences out of its ride, quick across the ground and straight at the fences and see it even jumped off the sand there. So it's, it's full of running, it has its wits about it.
Yeah, He's got a really good team. I mean you think of the, the horses that boy's got at the five star level, you know, it's no mean feat keeping one up here with the on course team here. So we won't get to hear it, but hopefully you might just hear it in the background. Laura's thoughts on her rounds. So two minutes and seven for Boyd Martin. Well, again, you know he's going to be very close. He needs to be 145, 140, 145, 150 coming out of here and he's not going to be a million miles away from that. And this is a quick little horse as well.
Yeah, once he gets in those woods, if he wants to put down the. Yeah, look how quick he was through the combination.
And There he is, 145, hitting the bottom of the bank. Loop 140 was produced by Marlon Peterson.
He rides with great style, doesn't he? He rides fast with style and the, the horses, you can see that they trust the ride he's given them. There's not much questioning going on.
Well, that is great, great views. But we still have that one horse out on course and it is Boyd Martin for the USA with Luke. 140. We saw earlier on. I just got corrected there, actually, Calero who finished with Felix Vog. The reason he was tense in his dress ups was because of the atmosphere of the crowd in the prize giving from last year's events and it really upset him. So apparently when he went into the arena he just really froze. He's quite, quite an insecure little horse and Felix has to give him a lot of confidence. So that was why we didn't see the test that we might necessarily have seen from him because he's a very good horse on his day. And it is Boyd Martin and Lute.140, 25 seconds on the clock.
It's gonna be tight. Yeah, it's gonna be tight. How much risk he takes coming home.
I think he's gonna do it. He might just be two, two or three seconds inside. The time clock is ticking down. It's amazing how quickly those 15 seconds disappear from underneath you.
Just one look at the fence.
It is four, four, three, three seconds. Four seconds inside. Wow. So Boyd Martin will go up that leaderboard. He will finish in fourth place after the cross country. An amazing performance. Pavel, I'm not going to keep you here any longer than you. You need to be because you've been absolutely fantastic. Amazing having you in here talking around the five star cross country. I hope you've enjoyed it.
Yeah, I really enjoyed it. Thank you very much.
You're very, very welcome. We are very lucky to have you in here, so thank you very much.
