Brad Schipke teaches the Bubble Up technique for releasing trapped emotions. Start by deeply relaxing your body through a hot shower or progressive muscle relaxation, then let feelings surface and consciously release them. He compares it to vomiting: uncomfortable but followed by relief and healing.

Get your body into the most relaxed state possible. And then from that relaxing point, what you will find is that emotions start to bubble up because typically emotional release coincides with physical relaxation. So the more things that you can do, whatever it might be, it might be taking a hot shower and then relaxing in bed. It might be doing a progressive muscle relaxation exercise. So the technique is to get yourself into the most physically relaxed state and then to just relax into the emotion even further. So all emotions start to bubble up. And when they bubble up, be prepared because you're going to have to release it all. But once you release it, it's going to feel good. Releasing emotions is just like throwing up. It sucks in the moment, But then you feel amazing afterwards. So know that you need to release emotions to properly heal, but this is a way to help you get in touch with those emotions.
