Reddit's anonymity gave users a sense of ownership over their data and conversations for two decades, embodying Web3 principles like personal control and no identity verification long before blockchain made them explicit.
It's interesting to think about the role that anonymous communities have played on the internet now and for the last 20 years and how we'll evolve going forward. I think all of the Web3 predictions that I hear feel very familiar to me as somebody who's been participating in Reddit for a long time. The idea that you get to kind of own your data or that your data is kind of yours to decide whether it gets distributed, right? It's not a place that verifies your name or your age. It's anonymous space. Anonymous communities give people more ownership over not only like what happens in those communities, but the kinds of conversations that they can have.
