This is why YOU should pay $14.99 for Meta Verified ๐คฏ

Meta Verified costs $14.99 a month because paying users become customers instead of the product. When platforms stop relying on ads, they stop pushing clickbait and polarizing content. A verification system that ranks unverified accounts lower would reduce bots and bad actors.

Twitter and Facebook are offering paid subscriptions. This idea seems to piss a lot of people off. But most of you who are upset missed the point. I got comments saying that Facebook and Twitter make money off of us, we're already paying with our time, and social media is filled with disinformation. Yes, all true. But if we had to pay for social media, I think two positive changes would occur. One, we become the customer, not the advertisers. Why does that matter? These platforms make money off of ad revenue. More page views equals more money. And what generates page views? Polarizing content. We spend more time engaging engaging with clickbait and stuff that outrages us than anything else. This isn't good for society or your mental health. If you're the customer by paying a subscription, the model is totally flipped, with platforms catering to your needs versus advertisers. 2. Fewer bots. Elon is making it so that posts from unverified accounts are ranked last. Because verified accounts are real people, this approach prevents something like a Russian troll farm creating a million bots and sowing discontent, and you as a user can have confidence that you're actually interacting with a real person. All in all, paid social subscriptions would create a healthier digital media ecosystem that serves the needs of real users versus bad actors or advertisers. I've said this before, but this is likely wishful thinking. However, as the saying goes, if you're not paying for it, you're not the customer, you're the product being sold. That said, I'm curious what the arguments are against this. Are you upset about the idea of actually paying for a subscription, or do you disagree with the points that I'm making?
