TikTok's algorithm scores videos on likes, comments, playtime, and total plays. Creators with consecutive views get boosted, while the platform actively suppresses like bait and limits similar content to keep feeds diverse.

TikTok's secret algorithm was revealed to the New York Times. According to their report, the equation for how videos are scored is roughly likes, comments, plus playtime, plus plays. Other variables are also taken into account, but to a lesser extent. For example, creators who drive consecutive video views are more valuable. The algorithm is careful not to serve too many of the same type of content to a user at one time, and like bait is suppressed.
