Facebook uses a tracking system called Centra that follows you across the web by linking a persistent identifier to your device hardware, even after you delete your account or log out. Apple's iOS 14 permission requirement for device identifiers was a direct response to this kind of invasive tracking.

According to a whistleblower, Facebook's tracking tools are way worse than you thought. It was just leaked that Facebook has a tracking tool called Centra. It can track you anywhere you go online, even if you've deleted your account, switched accounts, or logged out. They do this by tying your ID to your device hardware. This is the reason Apple requires apps to ask your permission before they can use device ID with iOS 14.
