Hey, my friends. It's Brendan. And welcome to day one of my Wellness Masterclass. I'm super pumped about this particular training because we're gonna cover a framework that I really hope helps you reimagine what wellness is and where it applies to your life. Because I know it can sound like a big concept, right? When someone says to you, hey, focus on your health and wellness, you're like, okay, I hope I feel good in the morning. You know, I want to make it more tangible, more specific than it's been made before. And I want to help you pinpoint a few areas that you might focus on that will reveal to you how your wellness really is. Because maybe you woke up today and you felt, like, vibrant and happy and joyous and driven for this day, and you were ready to go crush it at work or ready to go be a great mom or dad, but you entered this day with great optimism and a readiness to serve at your highest levels. Or maybe you woke up and you were already grumpy at the coffee pot. You woke up and you're, like, you know, stressed out. You looked at your social media and you're already freaking out, and it just like your day's already off kilter a little bit. I don't know where I'm meeting you right now in your life. I don't know if you earn enough money in your life that you're happy with. I don't know if you feel like you have deep, real connections and intimacy in your life with those who you love. I also don't know if you feel like you're making progress at the speed that you want in your life. But here's what I can tell you and what I do know. All of those things, your wealth, your relationships, your progress in life, all come back to this concept of wellness that your wellness practices in life. And the overall way you approach this concept called wellness, defines who you are, how you're showing up in the world, and it leads to those outcomes. It leads to the progress in the career. It leads to the deep, intimate, vibrant, joyful connections with your family, your friends, your co workers, your spouse. It leads to you feeling like, man, I'M just, I'm crushing it today. I'm in flow, I feel good. And if those outcomes, your career or your progress or your relationships are not really positive, it's coming from maybe a lack of understanding of how to approach your wellness and how to approach yourself. Because remember, wellness is related to well being. And well being's root is being how you are being in the world. And what I've learned in teaching wellness over these years to some of the most extraordinary high performing people in the world is that they have a particular way that they look at this concept that really facilitates them being extraordinary. You know, my book was called High Performance Habits, How Extraordinary People Become that Way. And it was based on the world's largest study of high performers that's ever been done. Data points from over 2 million people, 190 different countries. And you could think of the high performers as people who are tendency to have a be in that top 15% of performers in their field, where that means they're the top 15% highest earning or they're the top 15% happiest in any given category, whether it's their health or their relationships, or literally they're the top 15% of longest living humans on the planet. Right. Like we studied all these folks to see what is their mindset, what's their habits, what's their behaviors. And we measured how do they deal with stress, how creative are they, what are their relationships, like, what do they earn financially, like these big concepts. And all those data points pointed towards a simple conclusion that they approached taking care of themselves and they approached their intention for being very differently and very consistently than other people. Right. If your life gets off track, you and I both know sometimes inconsistency is a problem. If your life gets off track sometimes you and I know your intention, your clarity is a problem. In this course we're going to be covering those things. But in talking with a lot of people who didn't feel like they were high performers. So if I talk with people who are underperforming or average or they're like almost in that transition to becoming their best. When we talk about wellness, here's two things I always heard them describe that they wanted. And let's gauge these in your own life. When they think of wellness, they obviously think of like health and wellness because those things go together. But if you dial down, you say, well, what is the common denominator? Like what do you want? Like how would it feel if you had wellness? They tend to say, I want these two things. The first Thing they say is I want more energy, Brendan. You know, I just want better energy or even more positive energy, right? They say I want more optimism for the day. And that's kind of like a mental energy, right? They say I want more energy in my spouse. I want more like intimacy and vibrancy and pop, right? They say I want to have like better mojo around my co workers. Cause it's like negative energy is putting me down, man. A lot of people think their wellness is tied to other people's energy. We're going to get to that in this course because it's not true. Like other people's energy doesn't need to affect your wellness if you have the right mental tools to deal with other people's negative energy. But they always say I want more energy. I want that like all day long mental focus, all day long physical stamina, all day long good vibes, right? How's your energy been? Like if you think about like your last two weeks, have you had the energy you needed to serve your highest good in the world? Have you had the energy you needed to be the best mom that you could be? Have you had the good mental energy to be able to handle a lot of the stuff that comes at you in your business or in your company or on your team? Has your energy been something that you like enjoy? Like you say, at the end of the day I feel good. And if it hasn't, in this course you really gotta take a lot of notes because we gotta give you a new way and some new tools to approach your energy because that's what you want, right? So what people tell me is, Brendon, I need energy. And what they also, when they talk about wellbeing or wellness, they also say, Brendan, I need more motivation. I want to wake up driven, without the coffee. Coffee's fine by the way. But they say I want to wake up and feel like I'm on, I'm ready to go, I'm ready to crush it. And when we feel like we don't have drive in life, when we feel lost, distracted, uncertain, unclear, you know what happens man, if you can't see the path ahead, it's really easy to get down on yourself now. And a lot of people's mental well being and mental wellness is hurt because they don't know what they want, they don't know where to go. And so motivation is going to be a really important topic here in wellness. A lot of people don't think about that when they think wellness and they just think yoga and meditation. They think about the tools, not the concepts that matter the most. And here's what I'm telling you after studying all these people. Your energy and your motivation are direct outcomes of well being, of how well you take care of yourself and how intentional you are in who you are being. I want you to think about that. Your energy and your motivation each and every day are direct outcomes of how well you take care of yourself and how intentional you are for how you are being in the world. That kind of changes how you might start thinking about well being. A little more specific, right? Energy, motivation. But here's some other ways you can help gauge and see how your well being has actually been. You know, a lot of people, when they say or think of this concept of wellness, they think of the term happiness or they think of the word of like performance, meaning they say, well, if I think of wellness, it's about how I feel, I want to be happy, happy. And they think of wellness. Well, it's how I'm kind of like dealing with life and showing up and getting stuff done. So let's talk about those things. What do we know from the science of positive psychology and neuroscience that actually affects your performance that will give you more happiness and the ability to get stuff done? There's basically the three Cs we call it, okay, the three Cs. The first C is called congruence. And congruence is one of the most important topics of, of all of psychology study. That entire field of psychology ultimately comes back down to this concept of congruence. And congruence means you are showing up each day in integrity with who you think your best self is. You are showing up in integrity or in alignment each day with who you think your best self is. Meaning, are you living your truth? Are you living your best self? That is an indication of your wellness practices, right? If you're showing up each day and you feel like, man, I'm a jerk, that's gonna negatively affect your well being. If you show up in social situations and you fake it, or you're just kind of like conforming and being like other people, that affects your well being, right? If you're being fake, that's hurting your being. And so we've got to use this course and we've got to start right now getting you intentional about, wow, what is like the best of who I am? Like, what would that even look like if you could imagine yourself in five years from today? What does the best, most incredible, awesome, beautiful spirit of a human being of you look like? How do they carry themselves? How does he or she treat other people? Like, how do they meet the day and meet chaos and deal with turmoil? Because here's the deal. If you aren't congruent and you're not, like, consistently trying to be that person, guess what, you feel bad about yourself. And a lot of people never figure that out. They feel, like, unmotivated during the day. It's because their mind is saying, hey, man, I'm unmotivated because I'm faking it and I don't like it. Or they have too many days where, you know what? They had the hope of being a driven, contributing person who makes their dreams come true, and they got lost in the seventh season of a show on Netflix. They thought, why am I not doing anything? Oh, my God. Because they weren't being congruent with the driven, contributing human they knew they could be. And so I'd love for you to do yourself a simple just like formula here. On a scale of 1 to 10 in the topic of congruence, how congruent have you been in the last three months? With the best of who you know you can be. Right? So let me give you an example. Like, one, by the way, is not good. 10. Amazing. You're awesome. Right? Okay, so one, if we look at last three months of your life and let me give you an example. If I parachute into your life right now and you and I go to lunch and we sit down and I say, tell me, like, describe the best of who you are or who you could be. And you describe that person and you're like, oh, my gosh, I'm kind. I'm giving. You know, I'm a generous, abundant, flowing spirit in the human world. Oh, my God. And then I said, okay, tell me about your last three months. Do your actions and how you showed up, who you were being in the last three months, does it align with that aspirational figure of the best of you? One would be, no, Brendon, I suck. Ten would be like, you know what? I'm on my A game, Brendon. I'm flowing in the best of myself. I want you to know that for yourself. Because being congruent is going to be something we're going to talk about throughout this entire course. Because if I can get you to be more congruent with the best of who you are and your well being, my friend, it will flourish. We'll be able to see it literally in your skin tone, in the pop of your eyes, in how you smile, and that's not my opinion. That's based on communication studies of happy people. Like it literally shows up on them. And what makes you the happiest? Being congruent with the best of who you are. Second of these three Cs is connection. In that what makes you happy is and what makes you perform better and what makes you feel better is the quality of your relationships. Right? The quality of relationships makes you feel and sense the quality of your life. And I know you know, that's common sense, but common sense is not always common practice. And that's why so many people fail to fulfill their real potential or joy in life. Because we all know we should, you know, really care about our connection with others and. But how often do you text somebody when you should have called them? How often do you forget to say thank you? How often do you forget to hold up the open the door or be kind? How often do you hurry somebody and you're impatient with them when you know they needed you to be stable and solid in the moment with them? That's the stuff of connection. And when we're not being with other people in the way that we know we should, our well being and our mental health suffers. It's like an unconscious thing that happens that goes, you know what, I'm not good with this person or with these people and it bothers us because we know again, congruent we should be good with them. And so I'd love for you to do is could you just maybe write down the top five most important people in your life right now and then score yourself on the connection you have with them. And so what you'll see in this course and throughout this course, when I give you these examples, there's a worksheet, a download, a tool that you can download and print out that goes along with this, where you can rate yourself and you can measure yourself. And this is a great way write down the five most important people in your life and then score yourself on a score of 1 to 10. One not good. 10 being amazing. Am I connecting with them? Well, so let me give you an example. I don't know what you know about me and my personal life, but my number one most important connection point is my wife Denise. She is everything to me. She's my sunshine, she's my girl, she's my lady. She's been there from day one with me. She believed in me before I think I believed in myself. And you know, my background is, you know, I wanted to write books. You know, I always wanted to be a Writer. And I always wanted to teach, even though I didn't know how to do that. I just thought like those things were aspirational to me. And so, you know, when I graduated college, I got a nice corporate job and I was teaching and I was training. I was helping people change, doing change management, but it wasn't singing to my soul. I wanted to write. So I quit my job and I did what most writers do very quickly. I went broke. You know, I didn't know how the industry worked. I didn't know what to do, I didn't know how to earn income. And here's my lady, Denise, she's, you know, buying me groceries because I can't afford groceries. I had to move in with her. I had a lot of days where I was meandering about not knowing what I wanted to do. And she was patient during that time. It was really difficult. But she supported me and she believed in me. And once I achieved my dreams in writing and training, I was able to help her achieve her dreams in health and wellness by opening some exercise studios, which was her passion. And she's everything to me. So what I do as part of my practice and well being is every Sunday I do the very thing I'm asking you to do. Every Sunday, I write down the five most important people in my life and she's always at the top. And I score myself on a score of 1 to 10. How well did I connect with my wife this week? If I was not good at it, if I was distracted, if I was a bastard, you know, I'm a one. If I'm awesome and I was an amazing husband and I cleaned up and I was like thoughtful and gave her gifts and took care of her and was just the most amazing guy ever, then I'm a 10. And it's not like I'm ever perfect and it's not that I'm ever like, you're always somewhere, right? But wellness requires awareness to the important areas of your life. Because guess what, if that relationship starts to slide, do you think it affects me at work? The answer is yes. Right? Do you think if I'm going to do a course, like if I'm as I'm filming this right now, if my wife and I had a big fight this morning, would that affect my mental well being and my ability to serve you? Yes. And that is why it's important to keep these things on your radar. And this tool that you can download here, this worksheet is something you might fill out every Sunday. So I encourage you to download it, fill it out, top five people, score one to ten. And whatever your score is, one simple question. How could you improve that score? So if I'm a five with my wife that week, my next question for the next week is how can I be a 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10? What would I have to do? What would I have to say? What would I have to think to improve our relationship? Because if your relationships can flourish, your well being flourishes. If your well being flourishes, your performance flourishes. And we can prove it because it's science. The third big C in these three Cs after congruence and connection is contribution, right? We all want a sense of meaning in our life. And when we have that sense of meaning that comes from contributing, giving, serving in some way that makes us feel satisfied or fulfilled. Life, man, it's magic. But you yank those things away from people and the effect on their well being is catastrophic. I'll give you an example. I don't know if you know this statistic, but did you know at least in North America here, when like as an example, when men retire from their career, let's say they had a career that was like 20 years long, when they retire at the average age of like 64 to 68, they tend to die within four years. Do you hear that? They die. And it's not because the age. It's because when you yank purpose or mission or a daily to do that keeps you alive, people lose a sense of purpose. And when the sense of purpose goes away, the soul starts going away. I don't know if you believe in that kind of stuff, but I get it because I've been with a lot of people. I don't know how you, what you know about my background, But I spent 13 years in hospices. I've been with a lot of people in their last weeks, in their last days, in the last hours, in the last minutes. And I can tell you they think about what they gave in life and it's important to them. It's going to be important to you in the latter moments of your life, whether you feel like you contributed, you know. My whole journey in personal development began when I was a 19 year old kid and I was depressed and suicidal and I had a car accident that luckily smacked some sense into my brain because I realized I didn't want to die. But in that moment in that car accident, when I had a moment of reflection to think about my life, I had this question of did I matter? You know, did I make a Difference? Was there a purpose to all of this? And I unconsciously and almost instantaneously, instinctually knew I didn't like that answer. I hadn't contributed beyond my own self because, you know, I was in survival mode because I grew up in a tough background and we were broke, and I didn't have a lot of opportunities. So I was always in survival mode. And when you're in survival mode, you're also sometimes in selfish mode. And I hadn't looked outside of myself yet. And when people think about, well, being, one of the ultimate failures in wellness is they think about themselves. And usually they only think about their physiology. They think about, you know, how do I feel? And they forget that, well, being. Real wellness comes from doing good in the world. Real wellness, that sense of peace that you want in your life isn't just because you meditate and have a good mantra. There's a sense of peace that comes from knowing, you know, what, I'm doing good in this world. I'm contributing something here. I've got a mission, a purpose, my work has meaning. And so contribution is something we gotta score ourselves on every week. So if you think about, like, the last three months, do you feel like you've been contributing things that mean something to you, that matter to you, or are you just going through the motions or living somebody else's agenda? And I know this is not easy if your answer is, yeah, I'm a, you know, in contribution, Brendan, I'm a one, not a 10. And I share that with you because I've been there. And so I recognize the journey it's gonna take to feel like you're contributing even more. And it's gonna be a topic we're gonna talk about in this course a lot. And I hope that sharing these three Cs with you has given you a little bit of a framework here of what we're working through on this course. Like, we're gonna work on your congruence, you being your best self. But I need you to rate yourself right now on that score of 1 to 10. We're talking about your relationships through connection. And I want you to score yourself one to ten contributions. Score yourself one to ten. We're going to be talking about these as themes because those things are direct outcomes of wellness, and they are direct inputs to wellness. Because if I'm congruent, I feel well. If I'm connecting with other people well, I feel well. If I'm contributing, I feel well. And if I feel well, I'm more congruent. I connect more and I contribute better. You get it. It's a cycle. And that cycle and those inputs and outputs and outcomes, that's what wellness really is. And here's the last magical piece of this framework. They all interact. So when we talk about congruence, when people think about how they ideally want to be, they want what energy and motivation there, right? When you think about yourself and your life, you're like, I want to be energized and motivated. And that's part of the best of who I am. When you think about your relationships, guess has to be there for them to be great. Energy and motivation, you want from your community, from your connection, from your family, your friends, your loved ones, you want that energy and that pop energy, and you also want motivation there. Like, you want the people around you to lift you up and to feel like a positive force is happening between you. You think about contribution. You want to be energized for your work every day, and you want to be driven and motivated to go make it happen. That is what I call my ultimate wellness framework. So that's what this course is going to be about. I'm going to give you some frameworks and some measurements and new ways to have awareness about where your wellness is and where it could go. Because this is about helping you kind of reconceive wellness, but also achieve better wellness. So I'm curious, what did you take away from this first session with me? Like, what were your insights? Where did you score high? Where did you score low? Would you please do me a favor? Share that with the community? I'm in there. I'm getting feedback from you all. I'm giving some input. I really want to know what you learned. Maybe was there an insight, a spark? Was there an aha moment that you got today? Did we broaden your perception or understanding of wellness? Did I put a little fire under one area of your life? Whether that was who you're showing up as your congruence or your connection with other people or what you're contributing. So I can't wait to see your comments in this commune community, because I love being part of it. I know you do too. So make sure you leave your comments and then I'll see you in the next session. Okay?
