Hey, my friends, it's Brendon. And welcome to Dan. This is A big one. We're gonna talk today about purpose as wellness. Because when we all feel connected to something that's larger than ourselves or we can explain things through purpose, we feel better in the moment. And this is a big, big breakthrough for people. And I know you're gonna love the tactics I'm gonna share with you on this one. So, again, I wanna celebrate you for your commitment to personal development and learning. Listen, the fact that you made it this far in the program is incredible. And I celebrate you for that. And I wanna let you know I appreciate it. Not just as something I'm saying as a talking point to you, because I speak extemporaneously, as you know, but because this is part of my purpose. Doing this work, filming this education, doing this training, hopefully trying to be a light in the dark, trying to inspire people. This is what I sense as part of my work. So I really appreciate you and your commitment. For you to be here, it makes me feel even more connected to my work and I appreciate that. I can't do it without you guys. So thank you for that. So in the session, what I'd love to cover for you is how to connect with purpose and also kind of how to find it. Cause people struggle with that. Now, you remember we've talked a little about this concept before in, I think it was day two. We talked about clarity and what we knew about high performers. We knew that high performers tended to be really clear about who they were, how they wanted to interact with other people, specifically what skills they needed to develop and what drew meaning for them in their careers or their life. This is even a higher conversation than that because a lot of people say, well, Brenda, I just don't know what my purpose is and I don't really know what I'm about to. Or they say, well, Brendon, I don't understand the purpose of why this terrible thing happened to me. Why is the world so unfair? And these concepts come a lot. And as you learned in the last session, it can create some kind of existential baggage that hurts our performance and our happiness in the moment. And as I also said at the very outset of this course, I feel like happiness and performance are very big outcomes in wellness. Like, it's a good tell if you're not happy with or if you're not performing well, there's something going on with your wellness. So this is one of those ones for people that, you know what, they're really smart, they're really giving, but at work, they don't do anything. You know, or they're somebody who feels like they're really capable in life, but they feel lost or they feel like they're going through their day and they're just like. I just don't. I don't know, Brennan. It doesn't feel fulfilling or magical, but I'm doing work with other people and they seem to be cool. What's the difference? The difference is usually some level of connection to purpose. So let's talk about it now. I'm not here to tell you, by the way, in any way what your life purpose is.
Right.
I don't know you. I don't know what you do. I don't know where you're from. I don't know your mother. You could be a vampire from all in. I have no idea what you're doing when you're watching this. But here's what I do know about purpose. We have all been given some beautiful and obvious hints about what our purpose might entail in some way. And these are very observable, very, like, ethnographic. You can see it, you can see it, you can feel it, you can experience it. Like, these things are just true. No matter what your spiritual beliefs are, these are super obvious. And I always think, like, maybe the purpose is tied into the everyday obvious, you know? So I think there's three things, three hints we've been given about maybe the purpose of life or maybe the purpose of how we could experience our day. And that might be a guiding framework for you to find your own unique, specific one. And that tells. The first idea here of purpose is that I think the hint we've all been given in a world where, you know, out of 7 billion people, you're not like anyone else, that you specifically your genetic makeup, your DNA, the way that your personality works, the way that you measure on tests, the way that you interact with other people, it's actually genuinely unique across 7 billion people. Like, it might just. It might be close to some other people, but it's just a little bit off. Right? Right. And that little bit off tells towards the uniqueness of who you are. Out of 7 billion people, there's you. Okay? At a statistical level, that is so unbelievable. It is so, like, extraordinary that we have to take that as a hint that says, hey, I made this universe, I made this world, I made this planet. And, oh, hey, by the way, there's 7 billion of you, but you are unique. What do you think the hint is there? I think the hint is there. Part of our purpose is to live our unique lives Live our unique selves, forge our unique paths in life, and what ends up happening is at an existential level, when we're miserable, it's because we're not doing that. We're trying to be somebody else or do our career like other people do it, or follow the leader and follow the leader and follow the leader and never be the leader. What happens is when we get disconnected from purpose, it's often because we're mimicking and copying other people and missing the big hint. Part of the purpose was, hey, I made you different, so be different. Celebrate that difference if you wanna feel more alive, if you want your well being to come to fruition, celebrate the difference of what you are doing. Be yourself and express that more often. We talked in earlier sessions how that's really an indicator of positive mental health is your ability to express and live your truth. So it comes right back around if you've been feeling like, I don't know, I just, I don't feel connected to, you know, purpose yet. You're the purpose. You're not connected to yourself, you're not being yourself. To thyself be true. And you're not doing that. And lack of purpose. Sometimes you're looking too big, you're thinking like some cosmic esoteric reason for it all. When the hint was, dude, you're different than anybody else. Be that, live in that, celebrate that. And when you do, watch your life come to life, watch your energy increase. And what happens when your energy increases, Your motivation increases. What happens when your motivation increases? Your, you're more congruent, you're more connected, you're more giving and contributing. So that's the first piece. I don't know what that means for you specifically, but the hint is insanely obvious. You're different. So be that and celebrate it. And man, stop apologizing for it. Part of the reason we get disconnected from overall sense of purpose is we don't recognize ourselves in the overall flow of the universe or, or the overall organization that we work for or our overall family. We've lost ourselves in all of that. And because we're unsure of ourselves, what we do is we apologize. You know, I'm sorry I'm so different. I'm sorry I didn't participate there. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. If you keep apologizing for your goals, your thoughts, your dreams, what you really want, the level of income that you want, the level of difference you want to make, if you keep apologizing for that, you are minimizing yourself. And, and when you minimize yourself. In a world that said you're different out of 7 billion people, you are minimizing purpose. No wonder you don't feel purpose when you keep minimizing yourself. Because when you minimize self, you minimize purpose. So stop apologizing. Own who you are, celebrate it and let that thing fly. Let you be you. Let you be so remarkably different that you celebrate that versus apologizing for it. When you find your unique lane in life, suddenly life has purpose. That's the first hint we've been given. I think the second hint that we've been given is out of 7 billion people, yeah, we're all different. But as a species, we can't make it without each other. And the universal value across all cultures in the world of human recorded anthropologic time has been one thing, Love. That's it. Connection with other people. Whether you call it connection with the tribe, or love of the mother, or love of the father, or love of the persons around you, human beings have a unique heartfelt connection with other people. And it's not like just like, you know, fairy tale stuff. It's actually a human based need. You know, an infant dies without her mother. Like we have to have that connection and that closeness. In psychology, if you study attachment theory, that when you're growing up, the closer and more authentic and caring your relationships, literally the healthier you are later on, healthier, mental health, healthier physiologically, you live longer and you succeed in your career more, you get better grades. Almost every positive outcome that they measure in psychology can come from, okay, were you cared for? That's a deep human need. And what we don't realize is we're not just a reactive, passive member of that. That the hint that we've been given in terms of purpose is, hey, y', all, you can't live without each other. So maybe the hint is part of our purpose is to care for one another. Part of our purpose is that stuff that we talk about, kindness, compassion, empathy, love. That stuff comes from a realization that, hey, we need each other. And why do we need each other? Who knows? Was it God who said, Hey, 7 billion of you, you can't live without each other. And if you can't live without each other, you'll destroy each other and that'll be the end of it. So, hey, take care of each other. And whether you call it God, universe, luck, cosmos, or the crazy reality of our species that we need each other, that we can't advance without each other, and that in fact, without each other, we will Destroy each other. Because in almost all pain in life, where does most suffering come from? Separation. It comes from when we go, she's not like me, I judge her, I hate her. They're not like me, I judge them, nuke them.
Right?
That's the separation. When we make ourselves different and we forget that yes, we're unique, but we need each other and that our job is to celebrate the uniqueness in others. Just like we want to celebrate of ourselves and that we want to care for others. Because as we care for others, we grow both as a species and as humans. Like we know that psychologically and sociologically. So what does that mean? I think the hint says, let's take care of each other. And if we don't take care of each other, then what ends up happening is when you feel a disconnect from others, you sense less purpose of life. Let me say it again. When you feel a disconnect from others, you feel less purpose in life sociologically. We know that from both assessments with others. And basically, like basic, good old fashioned ethnographic research is that people really do sense purpose more when they feel connected more. So what's your purpose, Brendan? What's my purpose? Connect more deeply with the people around you. Create more positive emotions, memories and activities with the people around you. You want to feel purposeful again, it lies in the relationships right in front of your nose, man. It's right there. You're not seeing the people in front of you. You're not giving them enough appreciation, gratitude, love, kindness, compassion and. And empathy. And I know that sounds really judgmental to say, but I struggle with it too, right? We're all busy. It's easy to just like zoom through the day. But ultimately, if you're lacking a sense of purpose in life, stop looking to your career and start looking to the people in front your face. Because that's where it starts. It starts with how you're showing up. And that's the people in front of your face, man. You're looking way too cosmic, and that's why you're not happy. We need you to look inside. Who am I? What's unique about me? Let me celebrate that and express that. And how about this person over here? Let me celebrate, express, understand, give empathy and champion them. Because when you champion other people and you have compassion to other people, you feel purpose. That's just a big hint.
Hey, y', all, let me jump into this episode real quick with something I usually don't do, which is kind of.
Like a. I guess they call it.
A Mid roll ad or something. But I decided to do this right now because I'm literally at home working during this coronavirus pandemic. And it's really ignited a lot of questions from my community about how do I do that? You know, how am I thinking through my career, how am I thinking through building my personal brand and my online sales during a time in which, yeah, we're home? Like, how does my industry or my career or my approach to it function? And so what I want to let you know is if you did not know, I do have a program for that. It's called the Influencer Business program. And it's where I'm like teaching you. This is how I do everything. I teach you how to grow your personal brand, monetize content, launch campaigns, books, courses, webcasts, live webcasts, subscriptions. I mean, it's about basically how do you grow your audience in online sales faster no matter where you are, no matter if you're starting or not? Because clearly you've seen me do it, not just with the podcast, but with 300 million video views, 25 multi million dollar online course launches, three New York Times bestsellers, 5 million fans on Facebook. I mean, you've seen the covers of the magazines and the chart topping stuff and the, you know, if you're on the email list of millions of email subscribers or you've seen the social media posts from other influencers, you know, joining my masterminds and asking me how I do it all, it's like I've been blessed with all of that. And I just feel like maybe this is the time that you learn to build your personal brand, that you finally get yourself up online and making real online sales. Because, you know, I've been doing it for 14 years, every day, full time, and I've spent, you know, literally tens and tens of millions of dollars on figuring it out, on running ads, on learning which campaigns work, which ones don't, on starting from nothing, pushing every button myself, to finally growing it bigger and bigger and bigger. And people always want to know, what's your marketing strategy? What is the modern thought leader business model that can be, you know, built and monetized quickly? You know, how do you tell your story or build credibility and how do you get people to buy from you or what should you sell, what should you not sell? Or how do you create great content or online curriculum that sells or you know, what are funnels and launches and how do they work and what should I do first, second and third. And if you had to start Over Brendan, what are the four things you should do or what tools and systems to use? How do you get promotional partners? How do you do online challenges? How do you create lifelong fans? I mean, I'm just like literally sitting here thinking this is what I do every day. And if you would like to get a seven day crash course on that and then even live monthly marketing training for me, that's what we now call my Influencer business program. And you can literally just go to influencerbusinessprogram.com and it'll take you to the page to learn about that. Now, it's for serious people only. Obviously you hear me during this, you know, this global sort of shutdown and pandemic with coronavirus, giving away one of my courses with the wellness Masterclass, but.
This one's for serious players.
There is a charge to it obviously, where I go live every single month. And I also give you some of my best online training so that you can get your personal brand growing, grow that audience, make more online sales. So if you're into that type of thing, go to influencer businessprogram.com I mean, that's influencer businessprogram.com altogether. Influencer business Program. And you can learn about the multiple membership levels. I kind of made it affordable. If you want to do a monthly or if you want to take the whole year or you want the advanced pro program, you can learn all about that. Influencer business program.com. my main message to this audience and everyone I'm talking to right now is if you have not done the work to get yourself online, if you feel like you're falling behind in the digital era, if you don't have recurring revenue and every single day with some type of online sales, if you don't get the hint now, you're never going to get the hint. I mean, you need to do that now. In this growing pandemic. I genuinely believe we are going to see such a disruption in the economy in the coming months. And those who have figured out pretty things to grow their Instagram, but never built the business model, never learn recurring revenue, never learn how to do real launches that bring in the real money that allows them to have the living, they're really going to struggle this year. We're going to see people who have, you know, no fans, no audience, no email list really struggle. But we're also going to see people who have no online sales really struggle. And we're really going to see people who have even millions of fans, but who never figured out the monetization completely fall apart. So please go to influencerbusinessprogram.com if you are in this industry or, you know, it's time to build your personal brand and get those online sales going because, listen, the economy is going to be really difficult. But also, more importantly than that, listen, it's time to share your voice, to lead, to be a role model, to share your expertise, your life wisdom, your perspective about things with more people. Because we need more leaders out there sharing positive messages of hope, of strength, of optimism for the future because we will make it through this. And it will be the influencers and the voices out there sharing our thoughts, our wisdom and our advice that will help carry and set the tone towards a better Future. Influencer Business Program.com. we'd love to see you in that program. Influencer business program.com with that, let's jump back into the Wellness masterclass.
I think the third big hint we've been given is so simple. Out of all these unique individuals we're connected to, they all got lots of problems. Oh my God. They're so. They all got issues and turmoil and problems, and they all need each other. So maybe the hint is we have to find our way of being of service to other people. A lot of reason people don't feel purpose in their life is because they haven't figured out what meaningful ways they can be of service to other people. How can I add value to other people? How can I help people solve their problems or. Or be of service to them when they are in need or in challenge or in frustration? How can I do something that's good for this team or this organization versus what can I get from this team or organization?
Right.
We've all been taught biblically, ask and you shall receive. And I think that's absolutely true. But we also know, give and you shall receive. Give and you shall complete. Give and you shall fulfill. And so I think it's really important for us to realize that when we feel like, you know, Brendan, I'm doing everything you're saying. I'm unique, I'm me. I express myself. I tell the world what I think, feel, want, need, desire. You know, I treat other people with real kindness and compassion. I have deep relationships, but I'm still not feeling purpose. It's because the way that you spend the hours of your day, you have not learned to, to create meaning in, draw meaning in, or set the intention to give meaning to. And so what we do is we bumble through the activities of the day, taking no note of the reason why? What we are doing is important. That's what we have to teach ourselves. As you teach your kid math and you're struggling with your purpose in life, ask why is it important that I'm teaching my son math right now? What's the reason that I'm doing this is going to be helpful? You know you're doing that silly project at work where the boss asks for a big slide deck and you got to create it overnight. You're like, ah, if I have to do PowerPoint or Keynote again, I'm gonna.
Pull out my eyes.
It's your job to go, why is it important that I complete this and actually get it to my boss? Because what will the boss do it and how will that impact the company and ensure my security and my future and the future abundance I have in this role? Like, we have to challenge ourselves as humans to see the meaning and the connectedness to the value string that we're going to create. If we're going to feel purpose, does that make sense? If we just go through the activities and we never ask, what's the meaning of this? Why am I doing this? We won't see why. What we are doing is solving a problem, adding a value, supporting somebody, championing somebody, making some magic kind of happen in the world. And, and the more you are disconnected with the magic that you are creating in the world, even the little simple things, the more you feel cheated from purpose. Let me give you an example. I was. Many of you guys know I've been a volunteer my entire life. And one of the ways I genuinely feel people can connect so much more to the meaning of life is to be an active volunteer. I volunteered every month of my life since I was 16 years old. I am an absolute crazy fanatic about volunteerism and I hope that you will take it upon yourself to be more active in your community. I feel like there is magic that will happen there that you can't anticipate. Last month I was volunteering a couple blocks from my house. There's some services provided to folks who are really struggling. They don't have housing, they might not have their next meal. It's just a bunch of, you know, service oriented, mission driven people who are helping. And I literally was in the back of this soup kitchen helping just wash the dishes. And I'm there with a volunteer who's maybe been there, I guess he said something like 20 years. I can't remember how long, but really long time longer than I'd been. I'd only volunteered in that organization. I Think about four and a half weeks at that point. So I sat down, I'm sitting there, we're washing dishes and I kind of made the mistake a little bit bemoaning the process, you know, because I mean we literally, I mean, you know, I'm 5 foot 11 and I'm standing up and on this counter, the dishes are like literally above my head, right? And there's food everywhere and we're cleaning. I'm like, oh. And I'm just kind of, I just didn't want to do it that day, to be honest. I just was in, I wasn't in a. I was in a kind of funky mood. I just didn't want to do it. I've watched like my hundredth thing. My hands, you know, are all looking like a 90 year old person with all the wrinkles and everything else like that. I can't stand the smell of the dishwasher soap anymore. I'm like, oh, you know, it's mixing with the smells of everything. And I made the mistake of kind of complaining and the guy next to me, he's like, hey man, when your heart is here to serve, you don't care what task is put on you. And it really gut checked me and it reminded me that when you have the opportunity to serve, you don't complain about the effort required. When you have the opportunity to serve, you don't complain about the effort required. You carry the pail with presence and joy because you're getting to contribute. You get to chop the wood and you recognize that the wood is going to bring heat to other people even when you don't enjoy chopping the wood. Like we find purpose in looking at our activities and asking, how does this contribute? How does this matter to the whole? When we separate our activities from the whole, we start to feel less meaning, less connection, and ultimately more frustration and ultimately more like anxiety that what we do doesn't matter. So what's the solve? You've got to teach yourself that mental activity of the self talk that says, why is what I'm doing helping? Why is what I'm doing here contributing? How is what I'm doing adding value to people? And if we can teach that, we can change our lives. Now I know whenever I talk about purpose that everyone has a unique one. But I really believe that those are the three big hints that we have been granted in our lives. Everyone's unique, so be unique. Everyone's connected and driven by love. So connect and love. Everyone has problems and challenges and this world can't Survive without solving those problems and challenges. So be a person who does that but feels it along the way by asking the reason why. What you're doing contributes to the whole. When I have this conversation, one other thing comes up for people and they're like, but Brendan, what about those times when really crappy things happen? How can there be a purpose to life? When I lost my child, Brendon. When my father died, Brendan. When I was in that car accident, Brendon. When I lost my legs, Brendan. When you know I have no opportunity or I lost all the house, I lost the kids, Brendan, like, how can you say there's a purpose when horrible things happen? When the hurricane and the fire knocked out the neighborhood, Brendan, Go ahead and talk about purpose, life, Brendon.
Come on, take.
Tell me what you're about in those situations. I don't know that I can provide solace. I don't know that I can tell you there's an answer and I can't impose my personal beliefs on you. What I can tell you is if you don't find a meaning, it will hurt your wellness if you don't find something to do with that input. Because ultimate bad things that happen in the world, that's an input. How we react and what we do with that input dictates the quality of our mental health and dictates the outcome of our life. All I can ask you is what are you gonna do with that? That's it. I think the worst thing we can do sometimes is say, what's the purpose of this? What's the reason this terrible thing happened? And what we do is we get caught in negative self talk and the story and this bad narrative or over and over. Well, that happened to me because of these. And what we do is we over and over spiral into this negative abyss. It's like we drown in a pool of pessimism because we can't figure out why this terrible thing happened. I lost my father, one of my great influences in life. Someone who I just. I can't describe the connection of heart and spirit that I had with my dad. I lost him. I knew that if I asked, why did he have to die? Why did he have to get cancer? Why did it have to happen at this time of my life? Why is he not going to meet my sister's next baby? Why is mom going to be left alone? Why are we all going to have to work harder to make sure mom's taken care of now? Why didn't he get his pension? Why did he get shot up in Vietnam, why did this happen? Like, I could go on and on and on and on in this story, right? And it wouldn't be productive. So maybe instead of saying, what's the purpose and what's the reason all that stuff happened? We ask a higher quality of question. What if in all that negativity or all that challenge or all that turmoil, all that chaos or all those bad things that happen, instead of saying, why did it happen? We asked, what are the things that I can do in my future to be a good human? Because that happened. What can I do in my future to be a good human because my dad passed away? Well, I guess I could carry on his values. I guess I could do what he would want me to do. Take care of Mom. I guess that I could, you know, teach people some of the things he taught me. Well, Brendan, you know, you don't understand. I was disabled. Yeah, I worked with a lot of people who've been disabled. And I can share. I don't have the answer. And like I told you, I don't have the solace to give either. I don't know how to do it. I'm not there with you now. I can't give you a hug. But as I've worked with people who've had the most tragic and terrible things happen in their lives, as I spent 13 years at People's bedsides as they were passing away in hospice, I got no question that if you ask the right questions, you can deal with the traumas and the challenges in more productive and healthy ways for yourself and the people around you. So with whatever has happened, okay, how can you take that, and what's the way that you can use that to be a good human? You know, I got a friend who. He was in. Walking across a street, and a drunk driver hit him, went through the intersection, didn't stop and hit him. He was a pedestrian. He got hit. He's paralyzed for the rest of his life from waist down. Just nothing. The rest of his life. He's 34 years old, and, man, how do you console that? And for years, it was not a good situation. And then one day, he started asking a better quality question. How can I use this to be a better human? And today he teaches kids who've also been paralyzed how to play basketball. It's called wheelchair basketball. Sometimes they call it murder ball, you know? Cause they're just like. It's ferocious if you've never seen it. Like, I bow down to these guys because it is unbelievably athletic. And it's a beautiful thing to see that he now teaches a group of kids who also lost their ability to walk how to play basketball from a wheelchair. He found that way and that passion, and he made it a purposeful thing even when he couldn't find the reason. He'll never find a reason why that bastard got drunk, ran a crosswalk and hit him. There will never be a reason. You can't make a reason for that. But he can find a purpose in that by changing what he focuses on and the question he asks himself. So I'm not here to tell you, my friend, what your purpose is, but I can tell you there's been hints. You're unique. We're all connected. We all got problems and we need each other. We all got challenges and turmoils and problems of the past. And all we can do is how can I use that to be a better human? I hope that serves you in this session today. And I'd love for you to think about what is. Do you know what might be parts of your purpose? Because everyone watching this, you might sense maybe your purpose is to be a great mom. Or maybe at a tactical level your purpose is to be a great leader. Or, or maybe you have some other, like, what is it for you? Like how do you think of purpose and what might be yours? Or what way have you taken purpose and drawn purpose or given purpose based on something that was traumatic or wasn't good, that you didn't want that might inspire this community right here? It's why we're here is to share and learn and grow together. So please share your stories. I can't wait to read them. This is one of my favorite topics in the world and I celebrate you one more time for just being here because this is part of my purpose, is to be here with you talking about yours.

The Brandon Show Please share this episode around the world for me. I'll talk to you soon. Hey, my friend, I'm jumping in here with one last message to you that we bolted on here to this Wellness Masterclass because it just, it's just timing. You know, everybody is asking me how I run my career, how do I generate online sales, how do I build the real business? I mean, how am I getting my personal brand out there? How am I thinking through this industry during this time right now? And so if you're somebody who's wanted to share your voice and you've known you needed to monetize your content online, you've known you need to grow your following. You know that for security through this modern economy and what we're going to face this year, you need to generate recurring revenue. You need to get some online digital content out there and you don't want to get left behind in what is obviously becoming a greater and greater digital economy. You need to be out there. And if I can serve you with that, here's how I do it. Go to influencer businessprogram.com influencer businessprogram.com and that will take you to my membership levels in the Influencer Business program where I help you understand how do you grow your personal brand? How do you create and monetize content? What should you do doing with livecasts or launches or subscriptions right now? How do you grow your audience and online sales faster. We have three different member levels, and I'm here to tell you, as you are certainly listening to my voice right at this moment, why can't that be your voice? Why can't you be the person sharing positivity, hope, guidance, strength, optimism out in the world right now so that we can help people face the chaos with a little bit more confidence, with a little bit more authenticity and vulnerability, but also personal power? Why can't you take anything you've learned in your whole life about career or business or wellness or health or just living a good life, being a good parent, you know, chasing your dreams?
Why can't you take that advice to.
Structure it, build a personal brand around it, build some online digital content around it, sell it, get recurring revenue, and build something that not only carries you through with digital sales through this scary economy, but more importantly, sets you up to share your voice and make a difference at a time when it matters more than ever. You clearly hear I'm passionate about this, so go to Influencer Business Program right now. That's Influencer Business program dot com.
