Love that training program. But without further ado, let's jump in right now to one of the Brendan show's best of trainings.
In this session we're talking about declaration about we shall defeat our demons, understanding what is internally that's holding us back. Why is it so many of us struggled to get ahead, to move forward with confidence towards our lives? And I believe this chapter holds the answer to that question. Okay, so let's jump right into it. I believe that a quick glance into our own tired eyes often reveals a knowledge that we are the ones standing in our own way. You know, it's nice and convenient to play victim, and a lot of people do that. You know, they could say, well, you don't understand, Brennan. I've got this going on in my life, or I've got that, or I came from this background, or my dad was a jerk, or my business doesn't support me. And lots of people have excuses and reasons for the reasons for the reality of their life. But at the end of the day, I think most of us can look into the mirror, look into the mirror of meaning. And sometimes we can see ourselves staring back, and we're like, why aren't you showing up more? You know, we look in the mirror and we go, why aren't you showing up as who you truly could be every day? What's keeping you back from being more courageous and taking more action? Why aren't you achieving as much as you wanted to achieve? Why aren't you putting yourself out there? Why aren't you even trying? Why did you eat the bag of potato chips? We all have something in ourselves that we say, you know what? We're on a diet. And all of a sudd. We're gorging, and we're like, what's going on? I thought I was gonna be on a diet. Or we feel like we want to start the business, and we want to start the business for, like, 10 years, but we've never done it. All of that is something inside that we haven't mastered yet. It's holding us back. And that's what this chapter is about. And I believe deeply that greatness is going to belong to those who have mastered their internal world. Right?
It's.
You look at all these successful people and so many great stories and so many great biographies of people who came from. From the worst circumstances. But they rose to greatness. They rose to their own dreams. They rose to social significance. They rose to contribution levels. They rose to legend because they mastered their own internal stuff. And that's what this session is all about. Let me introduce you to that bad guy inside, that internal thing that keeps you from going back. We call it defiance, the idea that something in us is defying our highest good. Something in us is defying our ability to move forward faster. Something inside is defying that belief in ourselves. It's defying our ability to get out of bed and do the things that we want to. It's almost like there's an enemy for fighting us. It's us and it's internal, but we got to name it. This resistance that we face in doing the very things we know we should do, right? It's when we know we need to be focused. But all of a sudden we allow ourselves to look and watch three hours of YouTube, right? That's defiant, saying, no, I'm not going to let you do what you want to do. I want you to do these other things that are counterproductive. Some people call it self sabotage or that resistance that we feel inside. I just call it defiance. I create defiance as an image, something that you kind of see. We call it a three headed beast that lives in your gut and that three headed beast is sort of tearing at you. And the three heads of the beast are called doubt, delay and division. That most of what wrecks our life come from these three things, right? Our own internal doubt. The insecurities that we have, the disbelief we have about what's possible for us and our families and our circumstances, the challenges that we have. Even when we believe in something, in taking action. So we delay. We keep putting things off that are important. Yeah, I'll go to the doctor someday and then it's too late. Or oh yeah, you know, I'll ask her out and then someone else asks her out. Or oh yeah, I'll start that business. And we don't. And someone else invents and does that business, that delay. And that last piece is division. Division is that part of us that literally divides that feeling, that sensation that we are divided from other people, right? That we are separate or alone or unique or special or better than or superior to other people, right? It takes us out and casts the other people away and judges them in one way or another and judges ourselves in one way or another. Forgetting that we're all united and unified in the same. And so these things perpetuate our major challenges in life. Because where there's doubt, there's usually no certainty. And where there's delay, there's usually no progress. And where there's division, there's usually no love and humanity. So we aren't living through our heart, we aren't following our dreams and we're not enjoying the process because we don't believe in ourselves. Even though I sort of made it a Metaphor. And I played fun with it a little bit by giving it this character and giving each head of this sort of internal defiance monster. You know, one head is called doubt, one head's called delay, one's division. Even though it's a great metaphorical tool I use here, it's a serious conversation because it wrecks people's lives. And so let's do a reading and hear how that plays out in people's lives. As we become more aware of, we learn to sense this beast as separate from our own true nature. We can detect when it stirs within us, noticing a sudden wave of tension and stress in our body. I believe the more mindful and present you get in life, the more you start to have this ability to sense defiance inside. You sense something coming up inside that's holding you back. You feel that tension in your body or that stress, and you go, oh, wait a second. This is just the weaker part of me fighting this change that's important to my life. Does that make sense? This is just the weaker part of me fighting the change that is important in my life. You start to feel it and you sense it. We can hear it whine and roar, rise from our gut into fear sharpened thoughts. I'm not sure. The timing may not be right. They won't understand me or let me win. We can realize that these feelings in our body and these sounds in our head are not of our highest character, but those of an internal voice of defiance whom we need not feed anymore. Defiance can roar all it wants, but we can choose to ignore it as we might ignore a pesky yapping dog. It can shift and cause pangs of worry or hatred. But we can calm ourselves by asking, by taking control of our own thoughts and actions. With practice, we can exercise total command and silence this internal demon once and for all. Should we succeed, we shall begin to reach our full personal power. We're never going to reach our personal power unless we learn to manage our doubt, our delays, and the division that we feel in life. Once we start to master those, we start to touch the rim of greatness, of our full, true potential and power. I like to tell people real personal power is the ability to. To control our impulses and bring our mind away from reaction, right back into the moment, into presence in a place in which we can now make better choices and commitments for ourself. That's real personal power. But we can't do that if we're letting doubt win and strip us away from our own path. I hope that makes sense. So from there, let's jump into a conversation about doubt. Where are you currently in your life? Doubtful. What am I doubtful about in my life at this moment? What are you doubting? Are you doubting your knowledge? Your skills, your capabilities? Are you doubting your talents? Are you doubting your power? Your strength? Are you doubting whether or not you deserve something? Whether or not you're ready for something? Whether or not they'll like you? Maybe get just a little self aware now and think about is there any parts of my life where doubt has been sort of in charge? The precise moments when doubt begins to prevail in our lives are predictable. They happen when our doubting thoughts turn into real words. The moment we begin asking ourselves what if? And follow it with a negative statement. What if it doesn't work out? What if I can't handle it? What if I'm not good enough? What if they don't like me? What if I lose? I can't turn back? They take advantage of me or my position. These are the questions of a mind poisoned by doubt, not our highest self. It is, listen to this. It is in the allowance and repetition of doubtful questions that stall most people from free and fulfilling lives. It's the allowance and repetition of these doubtful thoughts that steal our freedom and our very aliveness. There can be no real progress if we incessantly question our own cause and capabilities. Yet the greatest damage from doubt isn't just what we fail to do in our lives. It's who we fail to become. We develop a character only through effort, struggle and learning, none of which ever choose to endure when doubt has our ear. Doubt produces only small men and small women scared of their own shadows. A world of timid worriers who never leap or serve or aspire for greatness. So what are we to do? How does one slay doubt? The great sages have taught us that when doubt has a hold on us, only faith can tear us from its grasp. Faith is a deep conviction, a global trust and confidence in our beliefs about what is true. The conviction comes from choice. We choose to believe something and hold on to that belief tightly, even in the face of so many unknowns. We have faith when we can endure sadness or suffering or loss and keep our wits about us, knowing that eventually these things shall pass and good things will return. We have faith when we believe in our capabilities to succeed. This belief needn't be overestimations of our current skill or strength. Instead, the most powerful faith in the world is the humble variety that says, I believe in my ability to learn and figure things out. With enough focus, time, effort and dedication, I believe I can learn to do what must be done and become who I must become to achieve my dreams. This is the most powerful faith, the ability to believe in your ability to figure things out. To say, you know what, I don't know how this is going to turn out. I'll figure it out. I'll bumble through it. And with enough time and belief in myself and dedication to what I want, it'll turn out. It will turn out. Even when it sucks. What sucks will pass if I stay dedicated. If I stay dedicated, things will turn for me. That's faith and that is a must have if we're ever to be truly motivated, confident or free.
