Persistence, Engagement, Recklessness
11 Oct 2019 · 10 min
Brendon Burchard strings together 60-second clips from his Instagram motivational videos. He argues that will, not hope, drives action, that chasing others' approval kills authenticity, and that what people call recklessness is often just bold goal-pursuit. Skip trying to convince skeptics. Focus on daily action instead.

Foreign. Hey, my friends, it's Brendon Burchard. And welcome to a special episode of the Brendon show where we jump into some of the best of my motivational quotes. Hey, y', all, y' all been asking for this for a long time and we finally put it together for you. Every single day, I do a new 60 second audio, sort of my best quotes or of coaching that we put on Instagram. And I have just gotten such an outpouring of love for these. As you can see, each of them tends to get, you know, tens and tens of thousands or tens of tens of tens of thousands of views. So much love for these. And basically what I've done is I. If you haven't seen it, please follow me on Instagram. Brendon Burchard. And what I like to do is post an actual quote of mine that I've written from one of my six books or, you know, the thousands of blogs and articles that I've done. And what I like to do is just grab a little bit of a quote, maybe it's two to three sentences. And so I read the quote on Instagram and then I just go off on that quote for like 60 seconds. So literally just one minute of fire as much as I can pretty much every single day on Instagram that I created originally. And people just wanted like a roundup of those. So finally somebody actually DM me on Instagram and said, man, you should do a mashup of all these on your podcast. These are, like, frigging inspiring. They're insightful, they're motivational because they're some of the best of what I've written. And I think you'll really enjoy these. It's kind of a funny format because each of them was only 62nd. And we're stringing together a bunch of them from this week for you right here in what we're gonna call the motivational quotes episodes. I hope you'll really enjoy that. So without further ado, enjoy these 60 seconds of motivation for your day, my friend. If you really like these, make sure you're following me on Instagram. And also just do me a simple favor that I know you guys are liking these. Take a screenshot of wherever you're listening to this, post it up on your socials and use the Brendon show. That way I can see who's really engaging with these motivational quote sessions. And we'll be doing some giveaways this week and over the next couple weeks, so make sure you use a hashtag the Brendon show when you post about these motivational quotes, sessions with that. Let's go. The more you chase approval, the more you repel authenticity. You know, so many of us hope to belong. We hope to fit in. We hope that other people cheer us on, understand us, want to see us succeed, want to support us. We want other people to respect us. And all those things are part of the human condition. Of course, those are beautiful things. But at the same time, if every time you go to make a decision about what you want, every time you go to make a decision about what you should do, every time you go to make a real decision about the future direction of your life, your career, your health, your relationships, and you stop because you think, well, what would other people think? And that little part, what would other people think can poison you from living an authentic life? What will other people think of this that can cheat you from achieving greatness? What will other people think of this? That can be the doubt that steals from your greatness. So live your authentic life, my friend. Look, there is hoping your life will improve and then there is the fire. A deep obsession to change and become better, to forge a vibrant and abundant life by just your sheer will, your daily focus and struggle, the guts to push yourself, to lift yourself up, to adapt, to persist and to be extraordinary. That is the difference. Hope or indomitable will? Hope or decision. Hope or drive? Hope or get up and get at it. It's not that hope is unnecessary. It is that it is just a foundation. And everything with that intention that comes with hope must be followed with a deep and determined initiative. You will shape the life you desire, but not by accident, not by luck, not by randomness or happenstance. Fighting for your dream makes sense, but fighting other people on your path is wasted energy, my friend. The real conflicts are within the struggle to take action each day. So let others have their opinions. Let them have their life. Your goal is not to win them or convert them. It's to win the day by consistent action. Action. I mean, think about how much time you are spending and wasting trying to convince people who don't believe in you, don't give you credit, don't understand your world, don't understand your ambitions, haven't done what you try to do, don't know you at all. You're trying to convince, pose, explain, communicate, get them to be believers. While all the while that's often stopping you from. From taking action, right? The more you try to convince them, the more your body says, maybe it's not True. Maybe I should stop. So instead, just take action and don't worry about other people. Because listen, if no one's called you crazy or reckless recently, maybe you're not pushing far enough, maybe you're not being bold enough, maybe you're not really going for it. Because isn't it true that every time you really go for it, there's that group of people who says, oh, you're so crazy and stop being so reckless. Don't risk your reputation. No one knows you for this. How dare you try that. You don't even know what your goals are or where you're gonna be in a year. You don't even know next steps. Because when you jump into uncertainty, my friends, and you do it boldly and you move forward, people won't understand it and they'll say that's reckless. Don't risk your reputation or your money or your time, your energy or your career. But if you have that impulse inside that says it's time to change, time to transition, trying to transform, time to grow, well, listen, don't let their definition of reckless stop your quest for greatness. The goal is to become a vibrant, healthy, fulfilled, mission driven and fully engaged human. Because that's the kind of person who loves well, that's the kind of person who serves well. And that's the challenge is we take our eyes off the goal, we get caught up into the task, we listen to what other people say, we let them throw off our A game and. And we forget what we're trying to become and grow into. And with that lack of intention each day we just kind of adapt, we kind of fall in line, we kind of conform. We become what other people want us to be or demand of us. They steal our time, they steal our energy, they steal our ability to become ourselves. And it's not their fault. They're just giving cues. But you're reacting and sometimes you're reacting into their life and into their needs. At the cost of your own mission, at the cost of your own intention. So be intentional. What's your goal? I feel like if we can become vibrant and healthy, fulfilled, mission driven and fully engaged, we'll live a better life. Look, if something brings you joy and meaning, don't give up just because things get difficult or complicated. I mean, you should actually anticipate that, that the more you follow your own path, the more that you activate your own passions, the more that you chase the dreams that are meaningful to you, the more difficult it will become. Why? Because more people, as you succeed, because you will succeed doing those very things, chasing your passions and your own dreams, living your own life. More people will come in and start to say, hey, I need some help over here or why don't you do this thing over here? Or let me pay to be over there. And all of a sudden it's a little more difficult. You got more team now, more support now, more audience now. Cause you're succeeding chasing your dreams and passions. It's more complicated now because now there's more relationships, there's more money, there's more finances, more obligations, but you're chasing your dreams. Remember that. It brings you joy.
