Brendon Burchard argues that personal transformation starts with deciding to be a positive influence. He says everyone is watched by partners, children, and teammates, so you have to walk your talk. Small actions either terrify or inspire the people around you.

Other big lesson, and this is the most unfair advantage you will have in your lifetime. This is the most unfair advantage you will have in your lifetime. This last guiding principle. Adopting the role model mindset. Adopting the role model mindset. It's the first domino. You want real change in your life, Adopt the role model mindset. The role model mindset says, I know I have an opportunity to be of positive influence to other people, so I'm not going to be a jerk. I know I can be a positive influence to other people, and I believe that's a secret. I believe you deciding to be a role model for your kids or in your relationship or in your downline, or with your team or with the people you coach. Guess what role models don't do. They don't scream at other people. Guess what role models do. They don't discount other people. Guess what role models do. They don't mimic, minimize. They don't name call. They don't mistreat. They don't tease. They don't form harsh judgments, because that's just not what role models do. And I think. I mean, how many of you feel like we desperately need more role models in our culture? Can I get an amen on a Thursday?
Amen.
I mean, come on. If we ever needed wisdom, which only comes from taking that mindset that you understand, you could be the elder, that you could be the role model. We're never gonna change this thing. We have to approach that. You know, we have to approach it that way. There's a hundred ways for me to do the seminar easier. Nope. I said I'm gonna do it in a way that they see me trying to do high performance and challenging myself. I want to be the role model of the very thing that I'm talking about. I want to walk my talk. So I got to take care of myself so I can do this many laps for three days. My question for you is this. Who needs you to be a better role model? Who needs that? Who specifically in your life needs you to be a better role model? Does your partner need to see you be a better role model? Of change, of personal development? Do the kids need to see a more confident mom? Does your team need to see you work a little bit more? Does the people who you're trying to volunteer for need to see you show up with more compassion? See someone you love is watching you more closely than you think they are? Who's ever noticed that with a partner or spouse? I mean, you ever had that conversation with your spouse? I have it with Denise.
All the time.
She goes, no, no, no. Last week you did this, this, and this and this.
And I go, oh, you were watching. Oh.
She says, oh, yeah, I have a whole list. Oh, I didn't know you saw that. Oh, no. She remembers when I left the green tea packet on the thing and it left a stain on the thing. She knows when I raised my voice to her seven years ago, the people are watching. I have people who remember what I wore on a stage nine years ago. I'm like, what? People are watching you. And either that terrifies you or you say, you know what? Let me show em. Let me show em the best of who I am. Let me put myself out there. Let me show this world the best of who I am. While I have the blessing of blazing across this planet like a star that is going in the cosmos. Let me, while I have the chance, show up with excellence. Let me, while the kids are watching, inspire them to live their life. Let me, while I get to be a person of service, do it so damn well that other people serve more, serve better, and we change this world. Cause we care about being a role model.
Let's go.
Yeah. Turn that birthday right. Shake them. Say you're a role model.
