Brendon Burchard argues that too much casualness kills the drive you need to perform. He links it to losing your sense of necessity and reverence for life. Real gratitude for living, he says, is managing your time with discipline: allocating hours to love, connect, and contribute instead of wasting them.

And I think most people continue to be too damn casual about their life, too casual about their marriage, too casual about leading people, too casual about just another Monday. Too casual. And I'm cool to be relaxed in flow. You know, I'm trying to wear sneakers now. You know, I'm trying to be casual. But I also believe deeply that if you are too much casual, you start going through the motions. Too much casual is because you're super comfortable. And too much of that casual approach to life usually belies. Usually belies a loss of the edge that is necessary for higher performance. Number one, you've lost some necessity in your achievement drive. You lost some necessity in your achievement drive. So read that chapter in high performance habits again on necessity. We also listened to on the podcast for free. Necessity. You lost that identity. Necessity that makes you strive for something more for you and your family. You got locked in the comfort zone, which made you too casual, and you didn't show up on Mondays. And then. It's not just that. I think casualness also belies a lack of reverence for life. Because when you have reverence for life, you want to live it. It's like Kerouac said, you want to burn like a bright star across the sky. You know, you want to live that fiery life not just because you want to be flashy, because you want to flash. Feel it. You want to enjoy it. You have reverence for it. It's maybe the dorkiest thing I said yesterday. I know it's not sexy. I just believe, though, the ultimate demonstration of gratitude is time management. It just is. If you are grateful for life, you are using your time on earth. Well, period. The greatest demonstration of gratitude is. Is time management. How much time do you give to love others? How much time do you give to connect with others? How much time are you using? Well, versus tossing out the door. Because if you're tossing all the time out the door, don't pretend you appreciate life. And that's why yesterday, I know it was a little edgy when I was talking about achievement, but I hope you feel my. My passion for this, because I want you to activate. That was my promise on day one. It's like, let's activate again. Let's really activate. Not because I need status and symbols and Instagram pictures with cars and stuff. No, because you care about life and you want to feel it, and you want to feel it.
Great.
And you don't want to be trapped in the past or limited. No, you go, oh, I love life. And if you love life, you show up for it on the daily. You show up for it on the daily. And you show up for it with real force and energy and vibrancy and connection and meaning.
