Breathing Exercise for Pectus Excavatum

Wim Hof demonstrates two breathing exercises for pectus excavatum, a condition where the breastbone caves inward. He shows natural methods to improve lung capacity without surgery.
In today's video, I'm going to share with you guys two breathing exercises that I use and that you can use to improve your lung capacity, fix shortness of breath, and be able to breathe more deeply when you have pectus excavata. I'm in the lab all night. I got it down to a side. So when you have pectus excavatum like we do, it really makes it hard to take a deep breath sometimes. I have a very severe case. My indent of my pectus is pretty large and I am not able to take as deep of a breath as I would like sometimes, especially when I'm doing some outdoor activities. And these two breathing exercises have even helped climb to the very top of Arizona, the tallest peak, Mount Humphreys, without any breathing problems and more importantly, without getting surgery. Still have my pectus and. And I plan on keeping it, because you know that this is what this channel is all about. So without further ado, let's get into the two breathing exercises. The first breathing exercise that I personally perform first thing every single morning is the Wim Hof method. Hi, I'm Wim Hof, the Iceman. Now, if you guys don't know who Wim Hof is, he's called the Iceman. He is someone who has set multiple world records. And right now I'm going to share with you how you do it. When you wake up, you want to perform this exercise immediately, first thing in the morning, because you have no food in your stomach and you'll be able to breathe in and out deeper and easier. So before we get started, make sure you get comfortable. Sit upright in a good posture position, not shoulders rounded forward or slouched. You want to have shoulders back down. Your chest is upright in good posture. And let's begin breathing. You start by breathing in very deeply through your nose and mouth. And then you exhale calmly, slowly, and only about half the air that you took in. You do this 30 times, and on the 30th breath or the last breath of the first set, you want to go ahead and exhale completely and you want to hold that. You want to hold your breath for as long as possible. You're calm, you're at peace, your body has more oxygen because of all the breaths you just took. And you're able to hold your breath for a long time. Now, once you can't hold any longer and you have to take a breath or your gasp reflex kicks in, which is where you go, you want to take that breath in and you want to hold that breath for 10 to 15 seconds. And after 10 to 15 seconds and you let the gasp breath out, you repeat 30 more times of the breathing in and out. So you want to do this for a total of three sets and the goal each time is to make sure that you are getting better. So you want to be able to hold your breath longer on the second set and then even longer on the third set. After a while of performing this consistently, you'll be able to hold your breath for a very long period of time. Start performing this first set breathing exercise every other day and you will see some awesome results soon enough. So let's get into pectus breathing exercise number two. So the second breathing exercise is stomach vacuums. So to start, take three to four big breaths in, exhaling them slowly, calmly, and then on your last breath you want to exhale completely. Once you let the air all out of your system, you then want to focus on sucking in your gut as if you're trying to get your abs to touch the very back of your spine. You want to hold that for as long as possible until you have to take a big breath in. Now if you are someone who's starting off for the very first time performing the stomach vacuums, I personally would recommend only doing them 5 to 6 reps every other day. Eventually you'll be able to suck it in even farther, look even cooler, and you'll hold your breath even longer with these two breathing exercises. So I hope these have helped. Now you have two breathing exercises that I personally use and that you can use to ultimately correct your breathing when you have pectus. And I'm super excited.
