Dropping $50k on a Rolex taught me this life-changing lesson…

Brian Moncada spent $50k on a Rolex after hitting $1 million in business revenue. He credits visualization and goal setting with getting him there, and argues that clear targets and belief in yourself drive success.
Wow. Damn. It's even better in person, right? Buying a Rolex is actually pretty stupid. At least that's what the majority of people will think when they see you with one that's worth $50,000. You could buy a house with that. I can hear people screaming at their phones right now watching this. And although they're right, the point of this video is to share a life changing lesson with you to that can help you make more money. But first, let's talk about how I got the Rolex in the first place. Two years ago I came across this old magazine ad from Rolex where it shows off the day date presidential what they call the President's watch. At the time I had just quit my job and I was hustling trying to sign my first clients as a solopreneur, trying to figure out this whole how to build an agency thing. And because I was in advertising, I was studying a lot of David Ogilvy and a lot of old print magazine ads. And like I said, I came across this Rolex ad which was one of the very first Rolex ads for the day date presidential. It's from 1966. So immediately I saved this picture on my phone as my screensaver for inspiration. And every single day thereafter, I would look at it over and over and over again every single day that I woke up. Now, before we keep going here, I want you to remember these six words. We become what we think about. I'll say it again. We become what we think about. That's a quote from a 30 minute audio clip called the Strangest Secret by Earl Nightingale. And in that audio clip he reveals what the secret to success really is, which is simply we become what we think about. And at this time, as I was struggling to figure out how to build this agency from the ground up as solopreneur a just trying to sign my first few clients and grow a business. I would look at my phone screen for inspiration and see this watch and visualize myself wearing it as well as listening to this audio clip over and over and over again and just constantly programming my mind with we become what we think about. I told myself that my goal was If I hit $1 million in revenue in one calendar year, seven figures, something that seemed impossible to me at that time. I would buy myself this Rolex right here. I would buy myself the Rolex in the advertisement that I had on my phone that I was looking at every single day for inspiration. This was my screensaver. I would have this always open whenever I open my phone. This would pop up. Now, here is where the magic happens. And this is one part of the life changing lesson that I really want you to pay attention to. Because if you implement this in your life right now, from today onward, I promise this magic, this strange secret, will ultimately help you achieve similar results. So fast forward to November of 2021, about a year and a half after I set that goal, and what do you know? We end up being introduced to a client named Anthony who has a company that sells luxury watches called the Timepiece Gentleman. This guy literally has a business selling luxury watches, and he was introduced to us by another client of ours at that time, Bedros Coolian, because he wanted to get more customers using YouTube ads. So is that a coincidence? I don't think so. And here's why. Because what's even crazier is that month In November of 2021, after we were introduced to Anthony, we were about $155,000 short of hitting that seven figure mark in the year of 2021. We weren't on track to do it. We basically needed like five more clients to be able to achieve that goal that I set out on a year and a half ago. And guess what happened? In the first week of November, we closed over $100,000 in new revenue combined with old existing clients to allow us to be within striking distance of crossing the seven figure mark that year. It was like magic. That was a huge personal record for myself. I've never done $100,000 in a week, and I was celebrating in Colombia with my wife at the time, and I was going crazy. And ultimately ending that year, heading into January of 2022, we ended up doing $1.09 million. Now, I know that's all good and great for you, Brian, but what's the point? And again, the point of this video isn't to brag or boast. It's to share a life changing lesson with you. And what happened next is where you'll see this whole story come full circle. Because the funny part about all this is that up until this point, I had no clue how much this watch even cost. Like, I didn't even do any research to know if I wanted to get this watch, how much it would actually cost me. And the whole time I was thinking I was gonna spend, I don't know, maybe, I don't know, 10, 20, $20,000, like Max maybe. But after doing more research and looking online on the Rolex website, I saw that this watch cost about $36,000. And that's if you buy it for retail, which means that you actually buy it from Rolex themselves. But if you today, right now, after watching this video, walk into a Rolex store that's around you and watch in whatever city or state that you're in, and you try to try on a Rolex, you ask them to try on a Rolex, or you ask them to buy a Rolex even though you have the cash, they won't let you. Like, I'm serious. Like, they just won't take you seriously. Like, they'll make up excuses. They told me that the inventory short, the waiting list is two years long, there's a gold shortage. Like, they literally made every excuse up in the book just to, like, get me out of their store. And I was just leaving the store feeling like a total. And at that time, I was like, man, this is stupid. How can I get a Rolex? The bottom line is you have to know somebody or you have to be an existing client of them already, otherwise they just won't let you buy one. I mean, it's kind of unfortunate, but that's just how it is. And actually, it made me want to buy it more truthfully. And so that's just a little lesson about branding and positioning. Because if someone tells you you can't have something, you just kind of want to. You just kind of want to have it more right now. Luckily, like I mentioned earlier, we had an existing client who sells luxury watches, Anthony, the timepiece gentleman. So I call up Anthony and tell him I'm looking for this watch. I send him the picture on my phone and I say, yo, dude, I want this watch right here. And he tells me, okay, what you should do then is you should go try on this watch because that's a 36 millimeter. And depending on what size watch you're used to wearing, you might not like it. It might be too small for you. And so luckily, I end up going to a different Rolex store. I call in ahead of time this time, and I make an appointment, and they see me and they allow me to try on a similar watch. And not this exact one, but a similar model. The day date presidential, but in the 40 millimeter size, which is the one that I have on right now. And I loved it. Like, I literally loved it. Like, I put it on, it was the perfect size. The 36 was definitely too small. And I actually saw it on my wrist and I was like, yeah, this is nice. So I call up Anthony and tell him that this is the one I want. It fits perfectly the 40 millimeter, the all gold Rolex day date presidential. And he calls me back after making a few calls to get his suppliers and tells me that it's going to cost about $46,000 for one that's used. Like someone already used this one and wore it. And then he says, if I was you, man, I would just go brand new. It's actually only $4,000 more, which means it's going to cost $50,000 to buy this Rolex. I'm not joking here, but I even wrote a one page entry in my journal on January 23, 2022, the Sunday after we had our quarterly retreat to start the year of 2022. This is real. So I wrote down last night, I was up in the morning thinking so negatively about the day date wire. I just sent like Anthony a bunch of money, wired it to him to buy this watch for me. And I wrote down in quotes, $50,000 is a lot of money which is going on in my mind. I could do this. Is it smart? No. But the goal of buying a Rolex is not to look smart. Yes, I could pay that into stocks, crypto, or the best investment right now, the business at that time, adspend.com and the experience, accomplishment and feeling of having, wearing and living owning a Rolex is unquantifiable. Plus I could always sell it, but I won't need to. And that's what I wrote down the night before, well, I should say the night after I sent that wire, just trying to justify myself of buying this watch. And again, I'm sharing this with you because when you have a goal in life and you set a goal on achieving something and you hit that goal, why would you try to downplay yourself here? Why would you sell yourself short and try to justify not going through with it and committing to what you told yourself you wanted to reward yourself after you achieved a certain milestone, whether it's in the gym or whether it's with your relationships with your family, with your friends, or whether it's when your business achieves a new revenue or profit goal that you say you want to do and you do it. And then you start playing small, you start shrinking up. You start thinking about all the reasons why you shouldn't reward yourself, why you shouldn't buy that thing you've always wanted, that car, that yacht, that house, that apartment, that condo, that furniture, that watch that you've had on your phone screen for the last year and a half. Why would you play small when the universe, God, whatever you believe in, the strange secret that you've been thinking about, looking at, visualizing every single day for the last year and a half is right in front of you. The stars align. The universe gave it to you with a client that said, I can get this watch for you because Rolex won't sell it to you, and you now have the chance to buy it brand new, be the first one ever to wear it for $50,000 for the rest of your life, and you're not gonna go through with it. Thankfully, thankfully, thankfully, I didn't listen to any of those negative thoughts and I ended up buying it. And I'm so, so thankful. Yeah, it's even better in person, right? Wow. That's really nice, dude. Thank you. Pull it out. Pull it out, man. First Rolex too, right? First Rolex, first luxury watch ever. Wow. Really? Yeah. So my phone right here. Yeah, I've had this on my phone screen for the last three years. Oh, look at that. That's cool. That's the one I was telling you about over the phone. So again, what's the big takeaway from this story? Well, it's that if you want something, make sure you set a goal to achieve it and give yourself a reward once you hit it. So that way you can be motivated to work towards it. But make sure you look at it every single day. Write it down in the morning, write it down at night. Set it as a screensaver on your phone. A picture of or with words as a screensaver. So that way you can constantly remind yourself about this goal. Now, why do we want to do that? Because we become what we think about. And the more you think about your goal, the better chance you have at actually achieving it. But you can't just think about it, okay? You actually have to put in the work. But that's the point. The more you think about it, the more you're seeing it. You're visualizing it, you're imagining yourself with it. The more you're inspired to take the actions every single day in order to hit it. And the more clear you are on what you want, the easier it is to see how you can achieve it. I look at this watch every single day, and it just inspires me. It tells me I can have whatever I want in life. I just have to set a goal, think about it, make sure I take the actions in order to get it, but constantly keep thinking about it, be positive when I'm on the journey to get it. And the universe, God, whatever you believe in, I promise you, is going to help you it's going to be in your favor to make sure that that goal, that dream, that vision becomes a reality. And that lesson alone right here, that you just learned right now, something that maybe you overlooked before, something that maybe you didn't take as seriously, something that maybe you thought, it can't be that simple, it can't be that easy is actually that easy. It's actually that simple. And that life changing lesson can dramatically improve your life, dramatically change your life. Basically like that. And funny enough, I actually used this same strange secret to manifest my wife, to meet my wife. And I know that sounds crazy, but it's true. So if you want to learn how I use this same exact secret, this life changing lesson to meet my wife, then click this video right here. So how can you speed up that process? You find the one girl that you're looking for. You do this exercise. You make a list of the woman's. You make a list of your dream girl's most ideal qualities. That's exactly what I did.
