A person born with pectus excavatum, a condition that creates a hole in the chest, shares how they moved from hating their appearance to starting a YouTube channel to help others with the same condition. They discuss overcoming insecurity and using their experience to inspire people facing similar challenges.
I was born with a birth condition called pectus excavatum. I have an indented chest. The reason I'm sharing that with you is because I've always been self conscious about the way I look. I remember one of the kids who was the similar age as me, who was. I didn't know. He was just someone that was in another party. He noticed my chest and he was like, whoa, what is that? Now? Of course, I didn't feel good about that, right? It made me more insecure. What happened after that as a result of that, you know, emotional trauma or whatever, if you will, was I started wearing basketball jerseys to swim because I didn't want to have that experience happen to me again. The main purpose of me starting my YouTube channel was to inspire the kid that I used to be. The one who was afraid of his birth condition, the one that didn't want to talk about it, the one that was afraid to take his shirt off in public, just like I was. So when I was creating the content, the passion I had behind it was so genuine because I was the person who've experienced that, and I didn't want anyone else to experience that same trauma growing up in their lives either. And so when you think about it like that, when you're creating content, relating to your business, it's the same exact thing, right? You're helping someone solve a problem that you once ran into yourself.
