A personal reflection on ditching the need to be cool. The speaker spent their youth chasing attention through music, then realized in their late twenties that self-improvement mattered more than looking good to others.
Dude, stop trying to be cool, Just get better. Because I had that insecurity growing up. I desperately, desperately just wanted to be cool. Always trying to hang around the cool kids at school and do what the cool kids were doing. You know, I used to want to be a rapper. I called myself B Money. I used to make music on MySpace. And I actually genuinely was interested in it, but I was interested in it for the wrong reasons. I actually wanted the attention that came with being the musician. That was actually a really thing, a really big thing. That I realized now, looking back, that actually changed for the better now at 30 years old, is I've stopped trying to be cool. And as a result, I've just focused in the second half of my twenties on getting better. Had I done that in the beginning, how much better would I be right now?
