A personal story about wanting Polo Ralph Lauren in high school and what the brand meant for confidence and identity. The speaker reflects on quality and the emotional weight of wearing something that made them feel like themselves.
When I was broke and in high school, I wanted to buy as much Polo Ralph Lauren as I possibly could, but I had no money. The reason why is because there was this outlet mall in my neighborhood back in high school that everybody shopped at. And the number one store that was in the front of this outlet mall was Polo Ralph Lauren. And every single time I walked in there when I was wearing raggedy clothes, I just felt inferior. I felt insecure. But the clothing made me feel rich. It made me feel powerful. It gave me a sense of a lifestyle that I've always dreamed of, but I really couldn't afford at that time. I even tried to work there when I was in high school, and they didn't accept me and they didn't hire me. I had to work at the Gap instead. And ever since then, I've always wanted to be able to afford Polo Ralph Lauren, because I couldn't afford it back then. And that's why I wear it pretty much every single day. Not just because of the feeling it gives me when I wear it, but the quality is just superior. 100% cotton, linen, or silk. And when I wear it, I get that sense of identity that I once wish I had when I was in high school when I couldn't afford it.
