The city was a conversation between people who wanted something that had yet to exist. Every human-made thing you will touch today came through the same doorway. It lived in a mind before it lived in the world. There is no exception anywhere. Every object in every room on every continent arrived By that same route. Even the natural items, I believe— the trees, the lake, the planets— all of it was held in someone's mind. But we can certainly talk about that on another day. Mind first, world second, every time, for everything. That's the mechanism, and it's been running for as long as there's been people. And you have the same equipment. The identical machinery that produced the chair and the bulb and the city is installed in you at full power. It has been running your entire life faithfully, precisely building your world out of whatever pictures you handed it.
