Organizations need to close three gaps to include autistic workers: sensory environments, accommodations, and emotional support. Inclusion means designing spaces and policies for specific needs, not expecting people to fit existing systems.

So we have to own— if I decide I want to include people with autism in my workplace, I need to own the sensory gap, the accommodations gap, some kind of emotional support gap. Funnily enough, my daughter was watching one of these, X Factor or something. And everybody, after they finish performing, especially if they've done well, they cry. They stand on stage and they're so uncomfortable, they're crying. people are telling them good things and they're trying to keep it together. And my daughter said, where's the emotional support person? Like, they should know that this is what's gonna happen and that person should be there on the stage. Like, we've watched people cry on X Factor enough times, right? Um, and I just thought there is a knowing that we need to have about the space where our system ends and particular demographics that we want to include come in.
