part 2 of 3

A shooter tests switching his pistol's magazine release to the left side and runs timed drills on steel targets under IDPA rules. He shoots body-head sequences, logs down-hits and penalties, and finds one reload forced him to focus on accuracy over speed.

Okay, so now that I warmed up and I've gotten some shooting in and I know that I can at least hit some stuff with this gun, we're gonna do a mini course because the other thing that I have to figure out for myself is, am I going to switch my mag release to the correct side for me as a left-handed shooter? So I've given myself a course of fire here that allows me to do one reload It's going to be 2 to the body, 1 to the head, that's 3 shots. 2 to the body, 1 to the head, that gets me up to 6. And now I'm going to transition over there to the plate rack, and then, so I'm at 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, reload, and then I've got 2 plates left if I hit everything. Now with steel, I never expect to hit everything. But that'll give me at least one reload in there. And I say at least one, hopefully just one, so I want to try it and see how it goes. All right, any questions? Oh wait, this isn't live. All right, you got yours on? All right. All right, you get my beeper again.
All right, are you ready? Stand by, go. Well, darn nabbit, cameraman.
How horrible was that reload? Did you get to see it at all, or you're at the wrong angle?
I was at the wrong angle to see it. Oh, well, all right, I'll take your word for it.
Well, we'll pause it, we'll go back and do it again.
All right.
Oh wait, that too. All right, so now what are my results? This is down 0, that's down 0. Uh, not bad. This is where I warmed up at, at this distance. However, we go get another target. Not quite as exciting. Uh, this is down 1 because it's not in the circle. That's 0, and then this is another 1, so that's down 2 for this target. So in IDPA, the way this works is that however long it took me to take these 3 shots, now adding 2 seconds to that, and considering by how little I missed this pie, I probably could have got this into the 0 in less than a second if I had paid attention. So let's try again. Alright, so I actually have division capacity in here, which is 10+1. So I'm gonna start with 11. So now I gotta do the math again. So I've got 3 shots here, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 on the next one, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. So in theory, before I do my reload, I should only have 1 plate standing. We'll see how this goes. Camera guy.
Oh yes, uh, are you ready? Stand by, go!
All right, so the reload all of a sudden became accuracy training. Look, I got an extra reload, but wait, I have nothing more.
Ah, this is the part where you run up and hit them, right?
This is where you throw the guns at them. Yeah, steel sucks. Anyway, all right, well, the reload was not as bad as it could be. We'll discuss with my mechanic if I can just swap this over, and then I will practice that next time. All right, folks, I think that's all I've got for today. Hope you enjoyed the video. Like, subscribe, all those things that all those YouTube people say all the time. Did I forget anything? Because you watch YouTube all the time.
No.
No? Okay. All right, that's it.
Bye!
