That's not the thing. Oh good, I'm not muted. I forgot that it does it automatically. Hi everyone, I just realized that we could probably do a blooper reel of that like second or two before the intro actually starts where I don't realize that we're live and I say something or do something. So we're not going to do that tonight though. All right, hello everyone, welcome to A Great Start Shooting School Suicide Prevention Saturday. Why are we here? Because 2 out of every 3 gun deaths that we hear about from the CDC are suicides. And if we really truly want to save lives, we need to talk about suicide prevention, mental health, and bonus, if we actually start addressing mental health, we lower violence as well. So I'm all for the win-win-win scenarios. All right, so, uh, happy holidays. We are on the, yeah, we're in December. I know they say you shouldn't say everything because you want evergreen content, but I'll change this to a holiday Suicide Prevention Saturday. So it looks like we got a lot of people out here already. Some folks got here really early. Wait, hold on. Who wins the award for earliest? Oh, well, apparently Mike White. Because over here on my side of things, he gets the 8:10, which is almost an hour ago, the first good evening everyone. DJ, of course, uh, second for 8:37, and then Misty Mrs. Wayne came in at 8:45. So to me, that's— that's— those are my early birds for this evening. All right, um, what else, what else? All right, so if Sue Starvers is Saturday, it is December and we have got holidays. A couple weeks ago we talked about unknown stressors because I didn't realize how stressed I was over getting something done, and I got it done. I'm like, oh, well, we're in December now, so most of us know what our stressors are regardless of your holiday affiliation. Uh, if you're getting ready for, uh, yeah, that thing with the candles, what's that called? Hanukkah. There we go. Oh my goodness. Christmas, uh, Kwanzaa apparently is a big one now. And when we're getting ready for the holidays, what does that mean? Oh, those are known stressors. Generally, uh, we have gifts. Oh, how many of you guys have that conversation? What can I get for you? What would you like? Would you like something from me to give to you? What would you like? And what do we mostly answer? I don't know. So here's the funny part about this. We have stressors going in both directions in the holiday season. One, we have to think of something for us that we're willing to let someone else give to us. So there's one decision that we have to come up with an answer to, and for some of us it's harder than others. Now, the second stressor is you, in that what do I give you? And then I have to figure out what I'm going to give to friends and family, whoever you exchange gifts with for whatever reason. There's just a lot of it that goes on in December regardless of the holiday that you're celebrating. So here in the teeny household, we celebrate Christmas. We, we got our Christmas tree today, and I wish I had taken a picture of it in the house to post up here for you guys, but maybe I'll have that for next weekend because it's funny because it looks like it's growing through our ceiling. That's how big it is. We have, we have short ceilings, just to be clear. So With all this stuff that is going on, um, stressors, we need to A, be, be aware of them. B, what do we do with them? How do we deal with them? My favorite thing is making that list. And no, it's not because I'm Santa and I'm checking it twice. It's because by having a list of who I'm getting stuff for or what I need to do, I get that satisfaction of checking stuff off or crossing stuff off.
List.
And I don't know how you guys are, but for real, I have had at least 4 or 5 really good, really good Christmas ideas for my husband, and then I forgot them. So writing stuff down, writing stuff down will make us less stressed. Because how many times have you like, oh, this is the perfect present for G webs, or this is the perfect present for Crabby Turtle. And then you're like, oh, I can't wait to get that. And then like 5 minutes later, an hour later, a day later, like, oh wait, I had the best present in the world for G webs and I don't remember what it is now. So I have done that a bazillion times with my husband right now. Kids also, I had some great ideas at Thanksgiving. We always ask, ooh, what can I get for you?. And so we go around the, the Thanksgiving table like, ooh, what would you like this year? And I had something that I was gonna tell everybody at the table. Oh yeah, I know what I want. And when I got to me, I forgot. So lists, lists are a super simple way to de-stress and get stuff out of here and onto a piece of paper. And it's amazing how great that is because just writing something down also helps you create neural pathways in your little brain that helps you remember the things anyway, on top of having the physical list to do that with. So with that, uh, DJ, I will happily let you do the roll call because I just feel like I'm coming out of the gate at a million miles an hour. So feel free to take over and say hi to everybody, even those I've already said hi to, to make sure nobody gets missed.
All right, top of the key, Mike White showing up ahead of me, which is sort of a rare kind of thing. Glad to have him out in the crowd. Misty Mrs. Wayne, Sariafan93, Gun Websites, the Crabby Turtle, and Chasing Ghosts are out there on the YouTube side. On the Facebook side, we've got, uh, Michael Bellinger and Pam. That's your roll call. Hold on a second, hold on a second, hold on. Late, late arrival, Guns and Barbecue is out there. Good to see him out in the crowd.
Did you say Crabby Turtle? I think you said Crabby Turtle, right? Yes, ma'am. All right, see, that's how much I— see, this is how short my memory is. This is why I must write everything down. And this is why I know for me that making sure that I, I write stuff down helps this work better. Um, what else? So yes, guns and barbecue last. Don't lose my shadow.
Yeah.
Okay. Oh, so, all right, sorry. Here's what happened. See that quick thing? So Mike, uh, Ballinger had texted me a story about your shadow.. And I think what I will do is both on both sides, both Facebook and YouTube, I'm going to post that in the comments under this at the end of, theoretically at the end of tonight, but might be tomorrow because I have to get ready for a gun class tomorrow. Oh, all the way from the West Coast in California, we have a Mario Mosin. Hey Mario, good to see you as always. Um, all right, so Mike White has a Charlie Brown Christmas tree, and I gotta say, I love Charlie Brown Christmas trees because they're cute, they're adorable, and they need decorations. Um, this is my Christmas tree, and if I turned off my lights— hold on, hold on, ready? I'll turn off my lighting so you can see that it's actually lit up. Where's the rest of my lighting? I'll turn this off too. Ta-da! It's actually all nice and lit up. For everybody. So this is— I am not one of those people who can remember to actually decorate for Christmas, so this is just always on my, uh, desk. It's just not always lit up. So there you have it. That's my Christmas in my office. Last week Mike was talking about having a friend tree where we have people send me— or friends send friends ornaments And so anyway, that's another concern. Make a little tiny tree. All right, back to stressing. I mean, not distressing. Ways to stop stress during the holiday season. One, lists. Without a doubt, make all the time in the world so much easier and better to remember stuff. What else are stressors? We're dealing with family, and we all know we can't choose family. And we love all our family, we just may not want to spend lots of time with them, and that's okay. So here's one of the things that helps me a lot, something Tony Robbins taught me a long time ago, which is, I can love you, but I don't have to like everything that you do. So when someone does something that you don't like, Like, I don't know, one of my least favorite things is watching someone chew with their mouth open. It's one of those things I'm like, oh yeah. But here's the deal. Even if you go to— and you and I go out to dinner and you're chewing there with your mouth open, I will still love you. I just don't like the action of what you're doing, which is, you know, chew with your mouth open. So you can love the person without loving everything that they do. And I think this is one of those challenges that a lot of people have where it's like, oh my gosh, they do this thing that drives me crazy. And just remember that thing, whatever it is. I don't know what your things are. I'm going to go with Mario's. Like, he does not like the loud people. So, well, so here's the thing. Just put your earmuffs in or earplugs in. No one will ever know. I mean, that's what I'm thinking. So do something like that. Seriously, you can put earmuffs in or the— you guys all know what I'm talking about, the earplugs that you put in your ears. So Remember that you love people because every life is spectacularly blessed and amazing. And sometimes we don't like the action of everyone around us. And if we can go into the holiday season with the Grinch's heart, if it's little and tiny, we can grow it by a size or two by remembering that we can love everyone. And we can truly connect with everyone because we all have something in common. You're like, oh, I don't have income, whatever. You can make excuses, or you can make a reason why you love and care for all of humanity. So here's, here's how this works, right? So I know that you and I have stuff in common even though I've never met you, because guess what? What do we have in common? Well, we watch the internet, or we're on the internet, so there's one thing. What else do you and I have in common? Well, if I put my hand on my chest, what can I feel? Yeah, my heartbeat. So you and I both have a heartbeat. If you really want to do the pulse thing, you can just put it here and you can find your pulse somewhere in here. We have a pulse. We have a breath. We are someone else's child, so we both had childhoods, and they may all be different. We might have grown up in the Midwest, East Coast, West Coast, down south, up in Canada, Arctic Circle, who knows? But we've all had experiences that have commonalities with us. And when we start looking for the commonalities of what we have in common with folks versus the things we don't like or the things that just drive us crazy. Because here's the reality of it is no one makes me mad. If you do something that I don't like, it's my choice if I'm going to be happy, mad, or sad about it. Because I've heard myself either say it verbally or in my head, "Oh, my daughter drives me crazy." And the answer is no, she doesn't. Some of her behaviors do not make me happy, but I'm the one who gets to choose how her behaviors act and affect me. Now, is that easy? No, but it's still something that we can practice that will help lower our stress levels over the holiday season is think about the fact you love the person, even if you don't necessarily like their behavior. Like the dude who won't let you in in traffic, for example, or dudette, you know, women, men equally can be jerks on the road, especially holiday time. Give yourself plenty of time to travel. There's another one for sure. Definitely do that, especially out in like LA and places like that that are hugely congested. So with that, DJ, I'm trying to ignore the comments. Is there anything that I need to respond to or say anything about?
I think you got it clocked.
No props. All right. I don't know. I can't even read. Red rum. Oh yes. There you go. So barbecue, red rum, that mouth breather with a spork chewing on your mouth open. OMG. So if anyone doesn't know, redrum is murder spelled backwards because we can't say things like that here on the YouTubes. Um, sorry, I'm just laughing because I read murder and mouth breather with a spork, and there's nothing wrong with sporks. I don't know what you have against sporks. Sporks are perfectly fine. And I was just laughing because chasing ghosts is braiding hair. Hands are occupied but still listening. I— if I had not gone to an all-girls school, I would not know how to braid hair. Not that I have enough hair to braid, but that is kind of— I don't know why that made me laugh, but it did. So, all right, what do we got? Stress reduction for the holiday season. Write stuff down. Give yourself a list to get through, because getting it out of your head and onto a piece of paper or I suppose it can be on your phone, um, or something that you write down so it's out of your head somewhere else that you can catalog it. That gives you two things. It helps create the neural pathways in your brain to remember the thing, and it gives you that wonderful feeling. This is why I say write it down when you cross that off your list, because you got it done. So this way you remember stuff and you get a sense of accomplishment. Huh, sorry, I'm also laughing. Um, range time. Yeah, you, me, we should do that. I cleaned a gun today, Fiona. Uh, it was a 1911 and everything. So, uh, for those of you who haven't seen Fiona in a while, uh, she is one of my unicorn students. And the reason we call her my unicorn is because she got into shooting and she started with a.22. And almost immediately went to a 9 and a.45, and she loves it. And she started with one gun, and now she has Benny. So, uh, Fiona actually helped teach me how to clean a Glock— or sorry, field strip a Glock properly, because I hated Glocks because I couldn't clean them. So, um, now I don't have that. So, all right, so anyway, write stuff down, look at people, and understand that you can love everyone without liking everything that they do. I always say that about the Ten Commandments. God said, love thy neighbor. He never said anything about liking them. So you don't have to like every aspect of anyone else to get along with them. You can look at the good in each other's, uh, life force, whatever you want to call it, and you can let it go. That's also probably one of the most important things, is just let stuff go. I know I'm up here talking to you guys, and there's plenty of times when I will say something, and then a day or maybe 2 or 5, I'll think, hmm, I wonder how someone took that. I wonder if that made sense. I wonder if this helped anyone out there. And the reality of it is I need to let that go. Either what I'm doing helps or it doesn't. I don't actually have control over whether or not it's helping you or not. So this is one of those challenges, like a lot of people I talk to, like they'll do their shows and they'll never look back at the comments because they don't want to know what other people's opinions are. And that is absolutely one of my other favorite things about being stress reduced is your opinion of me is none of my business is a Mark Twain quote. I'm not quoting it properly, but essentially that's it. And if we can let go and try to love ourselves the most. Because guess what? That's usually the trickiest of them all, is looking at ourselves and our imperfections and making sure that we're taking care of ourselves. So that's my biggest favorite thing. Uh, those of you who don't know, I currently have a boot on my foot because I tore some tendons on Monday. And so taking care of myself is making sure I wear my boot the way I'm supposed to for the next 2 weeks while my, uh, That's what my doc said. So should you have any stressors in your life, whether it's writing stuff down or not remembering them, being kind to others, being kind to yourself, physical ailments, take care of yourself and do what helps you. Oh wait, I'm going to read. Sorry, Sirius, let's help me out. All the time in working retail, I have to go to a lot of people's bad habits all the time. Oh, let go of a lot of people's bad habits all of the time. Yes. So working with the public in general, regardless, retail is challenging for sure. And it also depends on what kind of retail. My sister did that and I'm like, bless your heart. And it was one of those things where I'm like, not everyone is cut out to do that. Just like waitressing. I think everyone who goes to college, you must do a summer of waitressing or waitering or busing tables before you get into college. So you get to deal with real people on a regular basis to understand we are all people. None of us are servants to the other people around us. Oh man, we got special— I feel so special. Normally Hillbilly only watches the replay, but he's here now. Um, he's gonna be gone soon though because he's getting ready for his show. For those of you who don't know, you can— his show is going to be on at 10 o'clock, whatever time zone I'm in. Eastern. See, I need to write everything down. Um, so that is, uh, you can go over to his channel, check that out, 10 o'clock. I'm gonna go be a commenter in there. I probably won't be on it. All right. Um, kids, braiding nieces' hairs, bows, cooking food, mentally good, kind of communal, and a family thing. And we all need family. Uh, one of the challenges we certainly have in today's world is we are crazy fast-paced our nuclear family has been split apart into lots of things. And ready for this? I have a theory for y'all. My grandma told me that the dissolution of our little tiny family unit, unit, is primarily because of the car. Prior to the invention of the car, everyone lived in the same town. Everyone knew their neighbors because they'd walk by their neighbors and they'd say hi to everybody. And they'd all go to church on Sunday, pretty much in most small towns in America. Then Henry Ford came along, invented the car, and now people could start moving further away faster. So when my aunts and uncles moved to the other side of the country— they're out in LA— my grandma and I were having this discussion back in the '70s, and she's like, yeah, we started pulling things apart. And our families got bigger and wider and farther apart. So I don't know where I'm going with that. DJ, you got ideas? Because I already forgot what I was talking about. But yeah, family is important. There we go. That's what I'm trying to say. So what do you think? Tell me what you're thinking, DJ. Unmute yourself.
Say something. Well, from earlier in the show, I was thinking that indeed we all share the human experience. Just in our separate existences. So, we do have a lot of fundamental similarities, of course. And, Barbecue is out there talking about we all breathe air, we all need water and food sort of deal. And yeah, we all do. And, if you break it down to some of those constituent parts, it is a calming sort of thing. It's like that person is giving me my space even if their habits are annoying, even if the person doesn't let you in in traffic, You know, you're just atoms bumping up against each other in this existence anyway. So why not try to create some, you know, a positive charge out of whatever the interactions are?
That's what I got.
All right.
Thank you for that. And yeah, and back to the traffic thing for sure. Also remember that we don't always have good days, right? Um, we have good days and bad days and cranky days. And if you have to be the one with a smile on your face, Good job. If you have to be the one who someone just peed in your Cheerios and you're having a crappy day and oh, I don't know, you just busted up your ankle and now you're in a brace for the next 2 weeks and you're not having the best day, remember that someone is giving you grace and ideally you wanna be able to share that grace as well. Because like DJ always says, and I always screw it up and I always have to make DJ say it, if you don't see a smile, Make one. Okay, see, I don't know. In another year or so, I'll have this totally like memorized. We'll have DJ-isms. That's what— oh yes, all of you watching who follow DJ all over the internet other than Rock, um, we all gotta start making a list of DJ-isms. I think that would be fun.
Well, on the way out, I'd like, uh, one of my most common ones is be safe, have fun. 'Carry your guns and rock,' and I modify it for this cast, and I say, 'Take care of your crew and rock,' and I've actually started to use that one in a lot of other places. So I don't know that we want to have a contest of DJ-isms or anything like that. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure that the award for DJ nickname goes to gun websites and the term 'getting DJ'd' That being what I'm doing right now. You just keep going and you ramble and you digress and you tangent and you rant, and then it concludes eventually, and that's being DJ'd.
So I want to thank you. That must be why you and I are such a good fit. Um, so yeah, so, uh, hi to Ozzy. Um, and I don't think we said hi to Keith yet. It's 7:40. I don't think I saw 7:40. You got 7:40 out here somewhere? Uh, so yes, I see Set Chris from the 740. Oh, look at me, I'll, I'll, I'll— whatever that is, clicky and stuff. All right, so someone's trying to say that I'm old because she doesn't remember the '70s because she was too young. Um, but yeah, the 'your mom doesn't either,' I think I kind of get that reference because yeah, I'm sure my mom doesn't either. So Yeah. So the parents having to work in today's world is, is and isn't a thing. We, but the, the physical separation of our families, the smaller families that we have, there are lots and lots of stuff. Oh, Vanessa Kitty joined us. Hello, Vanessa Kitty. We really need to do lunch. It's only been what, 3 years that we've been saying that, maybe 4. I'm not sure, but really gotta fix that. So maybe for the holidays, or maybe after the holidays, January is good. All right, so with that, stay stress-free as best as you can. If you're feeling yourself stressed, start thinking about what can you let go of, what can you write down, because honestly, even just writing stuff down will help you get de-stressed because it gets out of your head. So, um, DJ lied.
Oh, what?
I don't know, we're not going to get into that. So anyway, I'll show you what I'm reading by accident while I'm trying to finish one sentence and one thought. But yeah, so apparently D— CloverTac is, uh, coined the term getting DJ'd. But you know, here's the thing about stuff like that, just because at the beginning when I said a Mark Twain quote is something of everyone else's opinion of me is none of my business. A, he's not the first one and the only person who ever said that, but he's given credit for saying it, and I don't even know if he ever said it. So, you know, we'll, we'll go onwards and upwards. Y'all have a lovely holiday season. Um, I will see you all next week, which is the— oh, I'm— I have not changed my calendar yet. Oh, so hold please. So we'll see you next week on the 9th, and we'll see you again on the 16th. The 23rd, Mr. Hillbilly and I hopefully will get together before then, and we're going to, um, put together a pre-record for the 23rd because I'm out to lunch— no, out to dinner on the 23rd for our family, getting, um, whatever that's called, our Christmas Eve dinner. On the 23rd. I know, not really Christmas Eve. All right, good night all. Uh, good night Mike White, and, uh, maybe you will all be over on Hillbilly's channel in about half an hour. All right, DJ, got anything else on the out of here?
Uh, just I want everybody to be safe, have fun, take care of their crew, and rock.
All right, good night everybody.
