Suicide Prevention Saturday - Just talking about it can help prevent it.

A host streaming from a snowy mansion discusses how two-thirds of U.S. gun deaths are suicides, citing CDC data. He stresses that talking openly about mental health matters, and that self-care and gratitude are the first steps to helping others and yourself.

Ah, welcome to the lovely mansion. Yes, why are we here? Well, I'm outside in the freezing cold, and if y'all are from down south or something, I just want you all to see the snow that is currently on the ground. Um, and we'll do the whole pan around thing because I don't know how to turn around the camera. So voilà, here we are at Wadsworth Mansion, and I happen to be at a masquerade ball. So, you know, you gotta have a mask on for a masquerade ball. All right, so hi everyone. Theoretically Guns and Barbecue is here because he said he was number one, or he said he was first at least. And so, um, Suicide Prevention Saturday, it goes on no matter what I'm doing because y'all are important for me to show up for and say hi. And look, we've got Sariafan93. Hi everybody. And I don't know who everybody is because right now it says some of my destinations have errors. So for those of you who can see me on YouTube, I can tell you're there if this isn't going on Facebook. Oh, these things happen. All right, so, uh, if you see the comments from before, like I said, this is going to be a short one because it's cold out here, I am not gonna lie. All right, so Suicide Prevention Saturday, why? Uh, because 2 out of every 3 gun deaths we hear about from the CDC are suicides, and if we really want to save lives We need to talk about mental health and suicide prevention. And that being said, why do I come on and talk about this every Saturday, no matter what I'm doing? Because it's important. It's uncomfortable. Nobody wants to talk about suicide because by talking about it, it's like getting life insurance. People don't like getting life insurance. You know why? Because— sorry, I keep seeing myself. I'm like, I gotta peek. You know why people don't buy life insurance? Because it proves that at some point in time they're gonna die, and people don't like that because we're not really good with that sort of thing. So I apologize for the Blair Witch-ness of this, but I've just got one hand and there was nowhere to put the phone. So suicide prevention, why do we do it? What do we talk about? We talk about mental health, right? What can you and I do to help other people? Well, the funny thing about that is generally the first thing we have to do is take care of ourselves. We have to remember to take time and pay attention to our pain and suffering, because guess what? Life is pain and suffering no matter who you are. There are good parts of life and we have to appreciate those, like fun with my family right now, but— and fun with you guys, my viewers, because y'all are out there and I appreciate you. So we have that and we have lots of, uh, other partiers in there. The prince is currently speaking, so, um, at least he's keeping an audience for most of us. All right, brainchild. Um, so yeah, here, I'll go this way because I don't know that they want to be on YouTube Live. So anywho, and you guys get to see more of the mansion this way. So, um, take a deep breath, enjoy life, understand life is challenging, find the things that make you happy, and realize that this too shall pass regardless of whether you are super happy or Even when things are super sad and super challenging and super hard, that too will pass. And sometimes it feels like it's forever. And the reality of it is, is it's not. Whether you're having a really good day or a really bad day, chances are you're having a really good moment and maybe not such a good moment. I know I saw someone put that comment in not that long ago, is like, did you really have a bad day? Or did you have a bad 10 minutes? And actually, oh, I knew who that was. That was my massage therapist, and he is a recovering alcoholic, and he has really turned to God a lot to help him. And this is where, uh, religion and God and the faith in a higher power than just what you see here every day helps people find themselves. And it doesn't matter what you believe in as long as you understand this too shall pass, good and bad. So as I am freezing my poor little hands off— DJ, did anyone else come in besides Barbecue and Saria Fan? Because I am not watching, but I'm watching you post. Considering one's own mortality is not easy, reminders less sometimes. Um, yeah, am I even reading that right, hun?
Yeah, no, you absolutely have that right. It was when you were mentioning people not wanting to grab or think about life insurance. Being reminded of one's own mortality is not usually a good time. Having to make plans and to be responsible for that kind of thing instead of having the support of others sometimes could be really lonely. And I appreciate that you're making some reminders that we go ahead and do that reach-out thing. And I also appreciate that you're here on a Saturday night when you could be inside being warm. So, for this brief broadcast this evening, we were joined by Guns and Barbecue and by Sariafan93 and myself. I always like to include myself. I can't do that every time. And yeah, so I think that should conclude the program for this evening.
All right, well, it is only 9:03 and I feel bad going so short, but between the fact that there's now a car next to me, so that's going to add to the fun and excitement. So yes, for my super shortest one. Oh, hi Fiona. Hi sweetheart. Um, oh, for my super short one, yes, that's gonna be it. I appreciate you for, uh, showing up tonight, and I don't know, drop links or not drop links. There you go, that's DJ's job. Don't drop links, DJ does that. But do, um, give me a, uh, topic for next week. I think we might have one, I forget what the, uh, oh, what do you call it, uh, what the thumbnail is, but DJ and I've sort of come up with a theme for the next couple weeks, so Anyway, thank you all for popping in. Drop those likes, share, all those fun things, and I will see you all next Saturday. Have a good night.
