All right, so I hit the go live just a little earlier than 9 o'clock. Anyway, happy Suicide Prevention Saturday night. It is Suicide Prevention Saturday. Why? Because 2 out of every 3 gun deaths the CDC tells you about are suicides. And if we want to help save lives, we need to work on mental health and suicide prevention. So what do we talk about on Saturday nights? Hmm, suicide prevention. What does that mean? Well, what do we do for our mental health on a regular basis? Number one, we can talk about it. Hey Dean, um, I'm on my own tonight. I don't know what happened to DJ, so, um, if I miss your comment, I just throw it up there again. Um, GT3, nice to see you out there. We were actually just talking about you. For those of you who have not seen it, you really need to go back on my Suicide Wednesday series and look at the interview I have with GT3 because I still think it's one of the most interesting interviews I've ever done. Not that I've done a ton, but G2/3 ranks up there. So, um, what are we talking about? So why do we talk about mental health? So tonight I've been on the range all day, hence the sleepy Brooke, um, under here. I've been up since 5 o'clock. And, uh, hey Moo, um, nice to have you. Thank you for popping in. 5:00 AM, got up, got dressed, you know, don't wanna go to the range naked. That would be uneffective. So got there, started setting up 6:00 AM this morning, left the range around 4:15, 4:30. We had an early day today, luckily. So, but one of the things that's great about a range day, right, is I get to hang out with all the gun people. And the competitive shooting gun people. And I get to talk about like how awesome gun girls are fun girls. Um, hey, yes, Miss Jennifer was up here. I'm assuming you were home by now. I certainly hope, because we all finished pretty early. But Jennifer was one of the people who was competing today. And so I volunteer at this, so I get to see all of my friends. And here's the funny thing, just like here on YouTube, I don't know where half of you live, or I don't know where most of you live until DJ or G-Webs or somebody tells me. When I'm at a match, I get to see all my friends that I have no idea where they live. So mental health and guns, let's talk about that for just a moment. Cause I really don't talk about guns on this show a lot. I know it is on A Great Start Shooting Schools, um, YouTube and Facebook channels. But one of the things I talk about often, because I think gun girls are fun girls, is that when I was a kid, I was a huge tomboy. I did not like many girls because they always seemed to be really mean, and I got picked on a lot, and it was just like, ah, they're just not fun. And I like the guys because the guys were simple and easy. And, um, sorry, I, I, this is the problem not having DJ. I have to actually look. It says practice how you dress for the situation. I'm like, and I'm laughing because yes, Um, because we're talking about going to the range naked, that would be bad. So then girls are fun girls. Why mental health? How does that tie in? Because my belief is the women I meet in the firearms industry have confidence, and because that's what I found when I learned how to handle a firearm. So one of the mental health portions of having a firearm and understanding how to handle it and be in control of it is that confidence building. Now, my mom— we meditated, we were tree huggers from a young age. I was in 3rd grade, 8 years old, we're learning meditation and hugging trees and thanking them and the gratitude thing. So that's all good, right? But meditation is hard for most people. Going to the range by myself and having a firearm in my hands is the most Zen thing that I've ever been able to do, where it's like I have something in my hand that could be— that is amazingly powerful. So I have to be fully present. So guns allowed me to learn how to meditate better. And for those of you out there who tried meditation and have a hard time with it, ready? Quick little meditation for you. Ready? Take a breath in, let the breath out. Notice that pause in between the bottom of your breath and when you take another breath in. It— just noticing that pause is a mini meditation. So not only do I understand that having a gun is an easy way for me to focus and get meditation, it may or may not be for you. I think rifle shooters are meditating all the time because the amount of, uh, math that's going on in their head, it would numb my brain. So, but, um, no, I'm always in awe of like what rifle shooters do, especially those crazy long-distance high-power guys that shoot a mile and stuff. So anyway, mental health, range time. Gun girls are fun girls. Why are gun girls fun girls? Because they have confidence. And I think confidence is definitely one of those things that allow people to be nice. Fearful people generally lash out. Um, I've done various types of martial arts in my life, but I had one sensei said the calmest man in the room is the one who knows how to kill everyone in the room. I had to think about that for a minute, and I'm just like, yeah, fear tends to breed insecurity. Insecurity generally breeds anger, and that usually doesn't show up well. When we're angry or upset or fearful, we do not generally make good decisions. For those of you who actually practice self-defense and train in self-defense, what's kind of the big thing, right? Remain calm, don't freak out. And the only way you can do that is by practicing. So hello, Crabby Turtle, nice to have you. And someone told me they're going to show me what hand pink waving looks like because, you know, I don't know. And I say that every time you put that up there. I'm like, it's a, it's a pink hand and it waves. I mean, I figure that's what it is. And DJ laughed at me when I said that. He's like, no, that's not it. But anyway, that is it. Range day. Gun girls are fun girls because they have confidence. Holding a gun should be a very zen moment for you. So now you know how to Meditate. Taking a breath, noticing the pause in between there is a mini meditation. Um, there's lots of different types of meditation. I know it's not for everyone, but it has been proven everyone who does meditate is generally happier and calmer, and calmness breeds happiness. Hey, it's the Mario Mosen. Um, where are you? See, Mario, I know because I've sent him stuff. Did I send him stuff? No, I guess I should send him stuff. I don't know. Tomorrow's out on the West Coast. I am sleepy, Brooke. I am totally sleepy, Brooke. Um, you— I'm assuming you missed the beginning. I don't know. But yeah, I've been up since 5 and on the range for most of the day. And tomorrow morning, same thing, up at 5, to the range by 6. And tomorrow's gonna be so much longer because it's 30% more shooters tomorrow and Um, we also have teardown to do because tomorrow's the last day of the match. It's a 2-day match. So yeah, I am— yeah, send you stuff. Well, I have sent some stuff. Um, not you. Oh wait, speaking of people I've sent stuff to, uh, Mike White got a package, uh, this past week. Yes. So 3 things. Gun girls are fun girls because they have confidence. Zen— holding a gun brings you present to the moment because of what you were doing. What was the third one I said? Oh, taking a breath and letting it out and pausing, just noticing the pause, just that tiny moment of paying attention to something as specific as the in-between your breath is a mini meditation. So And meditation has been proven time and time again to reduce stress, make people happy or happier, and that sort of thing. Um, you are welcome, Mike. I don't even remember what I sent you because honestly, next to your— next to the notes, because I went back and I watched the video where I was giving stuff away, and it just said general stuff. So I know I put stuff in a box and sent it to you, or in a bag, or whatever. So, um, that's what I got for you guys, man. Um, questions, answers, suggestions, you are all welcome to throw whatever you would like over here. Um, this is probably going to be a short one because like I said, I am planning on getting up early in the morning. But what is your favorite life hack? What's your favorite thing to notice about your life or something that you do? I just gave you 3 things of ways to look at stuff, right? Confidence is better than fear, right? We know that. Being present in the moment. Yeah, so dude, seriously, this is the meditation. Ready? I don't know if you missed it, but take a breath in, hold it, let it back out. When you let it back out, there's this natural pause. Just notice the pause. Pay attention to them in between. This is literally called an in-between meditation, um, because you're just noticing the in-between. We have lots of in-betweens in our life. One is our breathing. At the beginning and end of each breath, there's a slight little pause where it then— it just becomes a moment that you're present. Because the whole point of like Zen is being present in the moment. Oh, all right, ready? We're gonna go forward and backwards. What is depression? Depression is looking behind you and thinking about what already happened and feeling bad about it. What is anxiety? Anxiety is looking ahead of you and being fearful of what could happen. When you bring yourself to the moment that is right now, you're in the present. And when you are in the present, you cannot be worried about what's going to happen or regretting what happened in the past. And that's kind of one of— there's so many reasons for meditation, but that's one of it. So noticing the in-between of your breath, it's an itty-bitty mini meditation that you can start and then see, see what happens. All right. I rushed it on purpose, so it was super slight. Rushed what? Did I miss something? I don't know, all I saw was barbecue. Um, high barbecue. Yes. Uh, so yeah, see, isn't that great, Mario? Now you have a mini meditation to start. Itty-bitty. I was reading, it said new comment. Um, like, uh, although Fiona has a good point here, right? Practicing the mantra of not my circus, not my monkeys, not getting into other people's drama. This is so true. Um, it's so easy to get sucked into people's drama too, especially when we're in groups, right? I'm in groups, um, whether it's shooting groups or volleyball or other parents or politics or any of it. You listen to people talk and it's just like, just listening to what they're focusing on in their life is exhausting. And, or it can be if you Don't remind yourself that not my circus, not my monkeys. But then from time to time, it might be your circus and you might need to take care of your monkeys. But, um, take that breath in, let that breath out, notice that pause, be present in that moment right here, right now. Because what happened in the past cannot be changed. What's going to happen in the future is not certain. So there's no reason to worry about it. And, um, that is, uh, that's pretty good. All right, so the question is, how's my back? It was good most of the day. I took one wrong step, I had to kneel down for a few minutes before I started running shooters again. But all in all, not so bad. Um, getting over cold, but I can walk now, so that's a good thing. All right, ladies and gentlemen, Mario, if you really want, I have tons of different types of meditation that I could grab for you and send you stuff. There's guided meditation, there's just listening to music, there's listening to bells, there's, um, there's tons and tons of it. There's different types of breathwork. Uh, I think I told you guys this last week, but I'm going to tell it again because who knows, maybe someone is out there who was not here last week. If you are feeling stressed or, or anxious, there is a breathwork thing you can do and it helps relax you. And actually, crap, is that how it goes? I don't even know. But here's the deal: if you're feeling weird and you want to feel different, try this. You're going to take in 2 quick breaths through your nose and then breathe out through your mouth. So it goes like this. Now, the most famous guy that I've heard of in the past is Wim Hof. And if you do this to get ready to go do something, um, it will actually help increase your focus. I think that was the point of that. However, it is a state changer as well, because paying attention to your breath and changing how it goes changes your physiology and all that fun stuff. Um, Mario, what are you talking about? Who's Scotty? That's what I want to know. But, um, yeah, so anyway, so different types of breathing. So becoming aware of your breath is a good thing because now you're in the present moment. Noticing the space between your first and your inhale and exhale is a mini meditation because you're aware in the moment. Doing that 2 breaths in, 1 breath out can change so you're more focused. And if you want to look up Wim Hof breathing Uh, it— there's lots of different varieties of it, and yes, you can make yourself pass out, so do it according to what you can handle. With that, okay, see, I don't know EuroTrip, or do I? Are we talking about permanent vacation, or wait, no, I'm thinking of, um, who the heck is it? Chevy Chase, but that's probably not the one. All right, ladies and gentlemen, it is 16 minutes in and I need to get some rest. And I thank you all for popping in and being all chatty and whatnot. Uh, Dean, nice to see you. I will physically see you on Friday. Yay! And, um, yeah, who else? Yeah, no, Christine. All right, but Fiona Call me, do something. We should do a range day or something. Oh, clean, clean, clean things. Yes. Uh, so Fiona, um, Jen, uh, yes, we will be starting a dry fire club and a cleaning club where we can do chatty things and all that fun stuff. Alrighty then. Yes, I am super excited. It'll be great to see you on Friday. And yes sir, actually I'm already in bed. I'm in my pajamas. All I have to do is turn this off and stop talking to you guys. So again, thanks y'all for all checking in, and, um, have a great weekend. By all means, always leave comments, you know, do the thumbs up thing, subscribe, all that fun stuff. I guess I'm good. I haven't done it official, but, um, 10 o'clock— well, in half an hour-ish, give or take— 10 o'clock Eastern, 9 o'clock Central, um, go hang out with, uh, Hillbilly Up and, uh, because I'll be sleeping, but you can say I sent you. This was supposed to be an interview with him, but it didn't work out that way this week. So love y'all, thanks so much, and I'll see you all next
