Be Unrealistic

Bryn argues that extraordinary success requires wildly ambitious goals that seem impossible, paired with disciplined daily work. Henry Ford, the Wright brothers, Bill Gates, and Oprah all pursued dreams dismissed as unrealistic. Belief alone doesn't work; you need concrete action every single day.

Hey everyone, this is Bryn from MyLifeGPS.com, and I want to talk to you today about realistic. How many times have you been told to be realistic? I was having a conversation with a friend the other day. We were talking about the law of attraction, and I said that you can be, do, and have anything that you could possibly fathom. And he said, well, yes, but you have to be realistic. To which I took a big point of contention with. How many times have you been told, "Be realistic, come on, you can't do that, you're not the best dancer, maybe not be a dancer, your drawing's okay, I don't know about the big leagues for your sports pursuits," or maybe not the Oscar-winning actress, maybe just the small-time stage, or maybe not the big CEO, maybe you should just shoot for you know, maybe being one of the managers. Well, I have to say that that's just a limited way of thinking, and this is why we get exactly what we think we're gonna get, which is sometimes a lot less than what we would dream of. So I'm here to talk to you today about something a little controversial. I'm gonna say be unrealistic in your pursuits, be absolutely outlandish in your dreams. Dare to dream so big that people think you're crazy and are ready to commit you. I mean, this is what I'm talking about. For example, if you wanted to go out for the NBA, why not? I, I, I get that, you know, you may not be the right height, you may not be the right size, you don't have the skills, you don't have— so those are things you'd have to work on. You know, there's gonna be certain things you're gonna have to do to get to where you wanna go, but the goal doesn't have to be realistic. The goal can be as big and as bold as possible. Then you have to take a possibly realistic path to pursue that goal, such as maybe you're going to have to devote yourself day and night to dribbling and shooting and defense drills and working out and, you know, eating right. You're going to have to do certain things, so there are sacrifices. The bigger the dream, the bigger the, the things that it's gonna take to accomplish that dream. But when you're really passionate, I mean really, like this is something you want, then yeah, you gotta work hard for it. But if you put in the work, I guarantee you you'll see results. And that's the point. It's not the goal that's unrealistic, it's our way of going about attaining it. I wanna be a millionaire, but I don't wanna have to do anything for it. I don't wanna have to sacrifice anything. And I want it to come today. Now, it is possible to get that million dollars today if you know anything about the law of attraction, but what value are you giving in exchange for that? What are you doing to get that big thing to be a reality versus just in your dream world? So there's nothing wrong with being a dreamer. There's something wrong with being a dreamer without action. One of the biggest criticisms of The Secret was that there wasn't enough talk about action. So I wanna talk to you a little bit about Henry Ford. There may be some of you right now that goes, Bryn, I'm sorry, but I just can't do that. Come on, that's not even like close to being realistic for me. And as Henry Ford said, one of my favorite quotes is, whether you think you can or you can't, either way you're right. So if you don't think you can do it, you're absolutely right, and I'm not here to tell you differently.. But if you believe that you can, you can accomplish anything you set out to do in life. And I mean anything. I mean, it wasn't realistic for the Wright brothers to fly, but they got a plane up in the air. I'm sure lots of people told them they were crazy. I'm sure people told Bill Gates that he was crazy when he built a small computer company in his garage. Now he's the richest man in the world. Oprah Winfrey is now the queen of daytime television, and she started as a poor girl in the South. In a segregated South. So my whole point is anything, anything is possible if you don't give up, you're willing to go after it, and put in the time and the work and the effort to get what you want. So I'm gonna say again, be unrealistic, shoot for the stars, and then get after your goals and keep your feet moving. So that's it. So I'll see you out there, and I'll see you in the stars. Thanks, guys.
