A parent reflects on wishing for an easy, compliant child while raising a strong-willed toddler who fights constantly and won't sit still. After 20 years as a parenting coach, she learned to parent the child she has, not the one she imagined.

My eldest child was a really difficult toddler. He had such strong reactions to things. Telling him he couldn't do something would set him off. He wouldn't sit still. He did the opposite to what I asked. And you know what I wanted? A good child that sat and did coloring and went to bed without a fuss. I realized I needed to get help and reassurance from a parenting coach, and I learned something so important: the skills to parent the child I had, not the one I wish I had. I was so inspired, I trained as a parenting coach over 20 years ago, and I've been helping parents ever since. Does this feel like you? If it does, I can help you.
