Stool withholding happens when kids tense their muscles to hold in bowel movements, often from fear. A three-part fix: teach how the body works, identify what scares them, and problem-solve together. Left alone, it can become serious later.

Let me explain something. Withholding poo is a very difficult issue to deal with as a parent. Here's what it is: it's when a child needs to do a poo but holds it in. They squeeze the muscles in their bottom to stop the poo coming out. There is no one straight solution for this, but if we teach a child about how their body functions, help them to understand what the fears are that are driving the poo— holding in the poo— and and we collaborate with them to problem solve, it can really have a big positive effect. But I would always say don't leave it to chance. Children can go on and on and on holding in their poos until it gets to become a really big problem at a late age. So definitely DM me if you need help with this because I have a lot of experience in helping parents get over this issue.
