'Right, time to switch it off now.' 'No! I'm watching my programme! Go away!' Hmm, what do we do now? Throw up our arms and say, 'Fine,' and leave them to it, thereby undermining our authority? Or B, risk provoking a massive tantrum that goes on for 20 minutes and leaves us feeling totally drained? Now, TV or any screen is like a drug, and when we take the drug away, kids feel so upset. So here's one simple solution amongst many others that I teach. Set a timer that lasts the duration of the program they want to watch. 5 minutes before the end, pause the screen and give a warning.
