Threats don't work because kids listen when they feel connected to you, not scared. Hollow threats destroy your credibility, and respect comes from validating their feelings, not taking away privileges.
Chapters
Watch this to find out what happens when we try to get our kids to stop doing something or do what we've asked and we use threats. 1. We're trying to frighten our child into listening, and all the research shows that children need to feel a strong connection and an attachment to us in order to listen and be motivated to do what we've asked. 2. It's based on the idea that respect comes from us threatening to take something away, when in fact it comes from us speaking respectfully, validating their resistance, and showing that we understand their feelings. 3. We use hollow threats. 'Right, that's it, no TV ever again.' And then we know that it's not going to happen, and so do they, and our children don't take us seriously. If you'd like to raise your children without ever having to use threats, then drop a 'yes' below for my free guide, How to Get Your Kids to Listen Without Ever Needing to Threaten or Punish.
