Have you ever wondered what emotional intelligence means? I used to too, so I'm going to explain. It means teaching our kids to recognise and understand their own emotions, manage their feelings in a healthy way, and be aware of the emotions and needs of others. It helps them to develop their intrinsic knowledge of what's right and wrong. It's like their inner compass. So if we rely on scolding, punishing, or shaming to help them know the difference between right and wrong, They feel like they're a bad kid, and when a kid feels bad about themselves, they think, I'll show you how bad I am, and they behave worse as a result of it. Or if they feel bad, they internalise their emotions, which makes them less open to communicating and more prone to hiding their mistakes instead of learning from them.
