When your kid keeps asking for something you've said no to, like an iPad, don't just tell them to stop asking. Instead, acknowledge what they want, validate the feeling, state your decision clearly, then offer an alternative. They'll hear the no better.

If you said no to something, do you find that your child asks you over and over and you wind up shouting something like, 'Stop asking me for the iPad! I've said no, okay? So stop it!' The problem with that is, is that our kids feel squashed by us, disconnected and misunderstood. So next time it happens, try this instead: 'Hey, I know how much you want to play on the iPad. You really love your games. I get 'Get it? Maybe you think if you keep asking, I'll change my mind. That's logical, and I'm really not going to. I know that's hard to hear, so how about we come up with something else for you to do?' That is totally different. They hear it in a different way and can accept the 'no' so much better. Comment below and tell me what you think, and make sure you're following me too.
