Short YouTube career-coaching video in which Laurie tells an anecdote about a candidate who lost a job offer after revealing a planned two-week vacation late in the interview process. Laurie emphasizes being honest about scheduling conflicts or commitments during interviews so they don't jeopardize offers and frames honesty as a positive trait for employers.
Hey guys, it's Laurie with career coaching now back for another interview horror stories. As you guys know, I do interview horror stories and also interview success stories to help you guys out so you don't make the same mistakes. So I'm going to jump right into. Did I mention? So this is about a candidate who went in for an interview. Client really like this candidate, the whole nine yards. So she went to the next process of the interview phase and they wanted to make her an offer. So they said, you know, definitely want to make her an offer. She goes in, meets with a couple other people. They told her they were going to make her an offer. Then she proceed proceeds to tell them that she has a two week vacation coming up in a month. So this obviously put a bad taste in their mouth. They rescinded the offer that they were going to give her and that was it. She was no longer being considered for that position. Now everybody deserves a VAP vacation. Everybody gets a vacation. That's fine. But just be honest and make sure that when you're going through the interview process that you actually mention these things because they're very, very important. So the moral of this story is be honest during the interview. If you have a vacation coming up, let them know it's not going to preclude you from being hired. It's actually going to make it better because obviously you're being honest. So again, this is a story that happens actually quite often. So when you're going through that process, be honest with the employer at all times. All right, again, it's Laurie with career coaching now. And I will be back again with another interview horror story. And.
