Minisode: A Permission Slip To Create On The Fly [Ep 2]

Carly Hill, a therapist-turned-coach, gives you permission to post imperfect content. She recorded this while at happy hour on voice memo, arguing that C-level work is fine if it's authentic. Set an intention before you create, lead with curiosity, and stop waiting for perfect.

Welcome to the Thriving Therapeneur podcast. The show for ambitious therapists who are ready to unapologetically make more money, scale their impact, and build their dream coaching business. I'm Carly Hill, therapist turned coach turned CEO of a seven figure online business. I created the Thriving Therapeutic podcast because I'm obsessed with helping big hearted therapists outgrow the office and build successful and sustainable online businesses. So if you are wondering how you can continue make an impact without sacrificing the life you love, welcome Therapeneur. This is exactly the place for you. Think of it like the business school we never have. I am so excited to dive in with you. Let's get started. It's a Friday evening and it's happy hour. My husband's golfing. I'm sitting outside, I have my feet up on the table. I just poured myself a glass of wine. I made myself a charcuterie board. I got my merlot, cheese, olives, my faves, pretzels. I got the candles going and I snapped a picture to my husband. I was like, happy hour by myself. I pulled up a podcast to listen to because that's just what I do. And the podcast was all about creating content authentically. And the woman was talking about how she just walks and talks and creates content and like the leaves are crunching underneath of her feet and she feels like she's like walking along with her community as she's speaking. And it's intimate and emotional and it just flows. And I was like, wow. As I'm sitting here vibing, I could record a podcast episode. For those of you who don't know, I mean, you do now, if you're listening to this. I guess I've been working behind the scenes on creating a podcast that's been on my vision board for years. And I have found myself recently stuck in the need to curate content in a strategic way. I legit bought a podcast course. I. I mean, this is a type A perfectionism brain in me, and I constantly have to reframe this for myself. But I know a lot of you can probably relate to this. You know, you buy the fancy microphones and the camera, and I'm thinking, okay, I need to have guests on my podcast. I need to have them fill out forms, accept the terms and conditions. What's going to be the SOPs and the protocols, this and that, this and that. And I was listening here to this podcast. I was like, I'm gonna pull out the voice memo app on my phone and I'm just going to Talk and I'm gonna see what comes through. So literally, that's what I'm doing. I have no voice memos on my phone. I just press record. And I am so ecstatic that you are here listening to me. And I have five empty chairs around me. And as that woman talked about just feeling like she's walking with her community, I'm going to imagine that you guys are sitting here with me right now. And that may sound a little weird, but it may make it easier for me to pour my heart and soul into this fully random episode that I just pulled out of my ass. So I did set an intention before I pressed the record button and it was to allow you to have the permission slip that I just allowed for myself to create content that doesn't have to be perfect. It can be janky, it can be C work, it doesn't have to be a plus. It can have tons of mistakes and it can be beautiful. With all of that, I think sometimes in the online space, because there's so many creators these days, we feel the need to put on a Persona and to have a perfectly curated feed or any videos that we're doing need to be orderly and professional and pretty. And it's just not the truth in these days, especially with AI. And people have always craved authenticity, but more than ever are people craving realness, rawness, intimacy, connecting on an emotional deep level. If you can go back to your why for a second and let that come through. Why did you decide to become a therapist? Why did you decide to expand into the coaching space? Something has to do with the impact that you wanted to create on people's lives. Maybe because of the stories that you had to go through yourself. I would say 90% of us are our own ideal client, right? And we had to walk ourselves through something in order to walk other people through it. I found myself last week telling my clients multiple times, I need you to forget everything that I am teaching you. And I know that sounds incredibly weird. They paid thousands of dollars to learn the strategy that I teach and marketing and step by step blueprint which I give them. But when we get so caught up in this, step by step in trying to be perfect and trying to be curated, our light dies, the fire inside of us dims and we can't reach the people who we are supposed to reach with the messages that we have, the so powerful messages and stories that will literally move and shake mountains and our clients when we get so caught up in trying to do everything so perfect. And so with that being Said, I'm going to challenge you to one, go back to your why and really ground yourself in that for a moment and think about what it is that you want to bring to this world, let alone what's supposed to come through you. I think everything we create is really a co creation process, right? So what is supposed to come through you and how can it come through you with flow? How could it be easy? What if it could be easy? What if it could be fun? What if it could be exciting? What if you could lead with curiosity the next time you go to create a piece of content instead of leading with fear instead and trying to make it perfect? Wouldn't that be fun? Let it flow and just try it. You have nothing to lose. Just try. Next time you get an inspired action, just try it. Just post the post, just record the video, just pull out your voice memo app with your legs up with your glass of wine and just see what comes through you because it's going to be beautiful. As long as you're in alignment, what is meant to come through you will reach people in a way that is so energetically powerful, no algorithm could keep up. Like you are the algorithm, you are the energetic frequency of your brand and your business even when you go to create that piece of content. So that was another intention that I set and I have this in my trainings for my client as well. When you go to create content, it's like, please, it's almost like saying a little prayer before you know, or like setting an intention or whatever you want to call it. It's like, please allow this to reach whoever it is supposed to reach. And with trust you create the content that whoever it reaches, it reached them at the exact right time and it was the exact message that they needed to hear in order to help them move the needle forward in their life. That is just so freaking beautiful. So if you can say that, and that's what I said, you know, before I just hit my little record button on my voice memo app. Whatever's about to come through me, please allow this to reach who it should reach in order to help them in a way that they need the most help in this very moment. And I hope that as you as you're listening to this, that you allow the permission slip to sink into your heart that you don't have to be perfect when you create. It can be janky. C work mistakes are awesome. They help us learn and people love when we make mistakes and we can laugh about them because they're like, oh wow, you're a human too and they see that in us and they relate to that and that builds trust. And trust is the foundation of a relationship of transformation. So take a deep breath next time you go to take a step in business and don't sweat the small things. Just try it. Let it be fun. Play the what if game and lead with your heart because people will see that and that will attract the ideal dream clients to your life that you can then help them. So if you take anything from this little minisode, my first minisode ever, let it be to just have some balls and go create some bomb content that comes from your heart without having any fear. Just let it flow. Just be yourself. Just play the what if game. Let's just hit record. Let's just post something. Let's just tell a story. Let's just do it. We have nothing to lose. We don't have to be perfect. It can be C work. It doesn't have to be a plus. I'm just going to be me and I'm going to share myself. I'm going to share my story, I'm going to share my clients stories, I'm going to share my why and I'm going to let that fuel me into the next level of transforming somebody's lives. You got this. My love is with you. Thank you so much for listening to the Thriving Therapy Podcast.
