Carly Hill (YouTube, Nov 25, 2024) advises that coaching businesses should have their own legal entity separate from a private practice. She tells California residents they can form an LLC for their coaching business (it does not have to be an "escort"), and warns that using a DBA attached to an existing private-practice LLC simply changes the public name but does not create a legally separate business. Example used: private practice "Mindset Navigation" vs. coaching brand "Carly Hill Coaching."

Separate business entities. Let's talk about this for a second. Especially for my California people, when you start your private practice, usually you have to start an escort, right? So you think that you can't start an LLC for your coaching business and it has to be an escort. No, you can start an LLC for your coaching business. It does not have to be an escort. Okay? That's for my California people. So separate business entities. So typically, you will have probably an LLC already for your private practice. Now you need to file another LLC for your coaching business. It cannot be slapped on to your private practice. You cannot have a DBA onto your private practice. A DBA means doing business as. So it would be like so my llc. So my old private practice was called Mindset Navigation. Okay? My coaching business is Carly Hill Coaching. So I couldn't just have Mindset Navigation with a DBA of Carly Hill Coaching, because that would be Mindset Navigation, doing business as Carly Hill Coaching. All it does is give me a stamp of approval to advertise as Carly Hill Coaching. But it's still falling under Mindset Navigation. It's just doing business as Carly Hill Coaching. It's just allowing me to have a different name. Storefront branding cover sticker. Right? So it needs to be legally separate. Needs to be a separate business entity, not just a DBA onto your already LLC that you have for your private practice.
