Colvay argues that every brand needs a clear mission first. He cites that 85% of people dislike their jobs and shares his own shift from edutainment to speaking, then advocates for purpose-over-profit and serving marginalized communities.

It's your boy Colvay, Inspiration Engineer. You already Now what it is, welcome back. Episode 2 of the Brand Builder Playlist, your personal brand playbook for podcast, newsletter, and all things influence and personal branding. Super pumped to share with you a message today as we start talking about foundationally building your identity as your business, whether you're seasoned or whether you're new. What does it take to get people to remember you for who you are, what you do? And the thing I want you to write down right now is the mission that you are attached to. Mm-hmm. The mission that you are attached to. I read a book that for some was life-altering, life-changing. For me specifically, no disrespect to the author and the speaker, it wasn't life-changing for me. It actually makes sense. With everything that we do, we always say start with the end in mind and reverse engineer it backwards. Well, this particular author, the title of this book was Start with Why. Begin with Why by Simon Sinek. For me, that's common sense. No disrespect for those of you that didn't catch that nugget initially. But I say the same for this very reason. If you don't know why you're doing what you're doing, you're blindly walking down a path having no idea where you're going. And as we look at SMART goals, and we look at different ways to measure and have attainability and have a marker, That is your GPS of life, is the goals that you set up for yourself, correct? But if you're having goals with no core root as to how it's all connected together, then how do you know you're on the right path? How do you know you're going the correct direction? For us, our why was always the same. However, the language evolved. Originally, it was to show people a new way of something new, this edutainment thing. What is this edutainment that I keep hearing about? What is this inspiration engineering? Helping people create their own lane and break out of the box because your boy, Colvay, didn't fit in the box. And it wasn't about me trying to help everybody else break free of their boxes. I was in the box that they wanted to put me in. You're not going to put me in no box. So as I was creating my own lane, this is around the time that I gave the TED Talk Rise of the Inspiration Engineers, because I was seeing that the marketplace was showing me that there are going to be multiple people that don't fit in these constructs that we stereotype so that we understand what it is that they do. And I'll never forget, I saw a surfing realtor, and I forget his handle. I don't even know if he's still in business, but it was like the Surfing Agent or something like this. He was a real estate guy, but he took all the content of him surfing, whether he's surfing with a laptop or whatever he's doing— he's actually doing this— and he's making content around his passion of surfing and his passion for real estate. When I saw that, I said, oh, that is going to be the wave. We're going to start seeing these unique hybrids that don't fit in the traditional norms or the traditional boxes. I already knew because I'm ahead of the market. People want out of the corporate structure. They want more freedom. They want the ability to do the things that they love, the things that they're passionate about. I was already there, but what I wasn't as aligned to was that there were these other unique personal brands that were coming along or pedaling along as I was that were doing very unique combinations. Okay, but that's where it started. As I continued to progress, it became for me about legacy— not legacy from an ego play But majority of people that we study and we learn, they go to their grave with their greatness in them. That is a sad truth. Majority of adults are deteriorating children. At some point in time, they lost connectedness to their imagination. At some point in time, they said, or someone said to them, you can't do this, and they accepted it and they chose it and they— decided to decline. That struck a chord with me because I love my parents, and my father is a genius, but he chose to work in a factory and not utilize that genius. My mother could have been an attorney or an interior decorator, but she didn't use the genius of what she talks about she wish she could have, or what she maybe should have done. She chose to go in HR and, and senior director leadership. Now, she's great at what she does. He's great at what they do, but they're not fulfilled in what they do. If they were fulfilled in what they do, they would talk about the love that they have for their job and not the resentment that they have for the amount of hours that they spend. And even though you may love what you do, that doesn't necessarily mean there are going to be parts about it you don't love. That's not what I'm saying. I'm ultimately saying— I'm ultimately sharing that people who are fulfilled and love what they do, they, they radiate, they, they they proverbiate a different type of energy because they are in love with what they do. And that attaches to me to the legacy that you have and the life that you lead. And one of the things that my father said to me that I will never forget when I was a kid, he said, live a life with no regrets. And I have done my best to do that. That was phase 2, talking about celebrities and what their legacy may be, looking into the future or the imagination or the visualization of what the Calvé legacy might be and telling everybody, have you even thought about the meaning that your life is going to have when you are on your deathbed or ready to exit? What are you gonna look back and say about your life? That was phase 2. In phase 3, and it's stamped now, is I'm here to awaken dreamers. 85% of people work a job they hate. 55% of startups fail within 5 years or less. That is high. And if we start looking at Black and brown communities across the world, oh, I'm sure those numbers go way up. Yeah. Majority of Black and brown kids unfortunately are looking at drug dealers. They're looking at athletes and celebrities as icons, and that's unfortunate. That needs to change. I decided that in order to disrupt the numbers of people that take their genius to their grave as I watch my actual father take his genius potentially to his grave. I said, throughout the world, people need to hear this message. Throughout the world, people need programming that empowers you and edifies you and tells you how great you are and how great you can be without selling your ego. But the truth is that— or at least maybe the numbers say that people are born 1 out of 10 million sperm. So that means you were hand-selected by the creator of life, AKA God, and you're here now. So there's a reason why you were hand-chosen, hand-selected. Now that you're here— and one other common thread that we all have is as children, we all had an imagination where everything is possible. What happened to that? Yeah. How do we tap back into that? But you as a personal brand got to start with why do you do the things that you do? What is the overall point and the overall purpose of what your legacy is going to be? What is the mission behind the content that you create? What is the mission behind the impact that you want to have? I personally believe purpose over profits, relationships over revenue. These are philosophies within our core values and our architecture within Colvay Empire that we say These are the things that we believe in, and we want to help other people break free from these chains of mediocrity, these chains of threshold that keep us from accelerating into what we want to do to be great. Venture capital should not belong to the few. Opportunity should not belong to the elite. Nobody is pulling back the playbook curtain and showing how the game of influence and personal branding and corporation building and startup building works. If they were, I think I would have found it. Okay, cool. Call me, we'll fill the gap. A lot of people ain't gonna like it. That's all right. But my point is that your personal brand or your corporate brand, you want to have a mission, hopefully, that's larger than life. And I want to attach a final thought to something very powerful on the spiritual side. I'm not a preacher. That's not what I'm called to do. I am a man of faith and a man of the word. Mm-hmm. And a man of Christ. When you look at the 3 types of people that the Lord discusses a lot to serve is the poor, widows, and orphans. There are so many people in this world that need more love. There are so many people in this world that need empowerment, that need just a spark to be able to bring their genius to the surface. And you could be that spark for them. You could share that idea, have that comment, have that thought. I love it. Have that piece of content that radically disrupts their entire life. And when you start thinking about it from that angle of the impact that you can have and the why in which you serve, that is the foundation and the rock that you build upon with your brand. It's powerful. It's a powerful, powerful thought. It's your boy, Corvay. I am so grateful, honored, humbled that I get to serve you with this message on the Brand Builder playlist. As we continue to evolve within our programming, you're going to get the strategies, the how-tos, the guides, the resources, the templates, the AI, The fill in the blank, everything that you're going to need to be able to build the type of brand that you want to create.
